Now that the plethora of MLS pundits are finished skewering NYCFC for hiring Vieira (no 1st team experience), will they also skewer Chicago for hiring a guy with no 1st team experience while only coaching Serbia's U-20 to the cup title?

And if Paunovic also succeeds in Chicago, what will that do to the MLS fantasy that foreign coaches can't cut it?

The rest of the MLS will say the Paunovic hire is SOOOO different from Vieira because Paunovic played half a season for Philadelphia.

I don't think the MLS establishment hates the Vieira hiring (although they will be all over us if we underachieve this year), they hate we fired the MLS establishment poster child.

Chicago is not a very good job. Bad ownership. Alienating ex-players. Fans protesting the team. Paunovic has a lot of work ahead of him.

I hear what you're saying, but isn't that the same as Tomato vs To-ma-to ? (the MLS establishment POV)

A former MLS player who has a GM that has worked for MLS for years?

Yes completely same situation.

Big Serbian population in Chicago. Even though the stadium is closer to Indiana than it is Chicago

Paunovic most likely will fail because the ownership is horrible. Then I agree that the "mls is so complicated" crowd will blame it on Paunovic being an outsider while completely ignoring that fact that the last two Chicago coaches to fail happened to be mls insiders.

Grant Wahl confirmed that Jason Kreis interviewed for the job. Chicago decided to not hire him.

So if Veiera played 17 meaningless games at the end of his career in MLS how this guy did, you would be cool with the Veiera hire?

Magnus point is that Chicago also hired someone with literally 20 years experience working for MLS as the GM while we have Reyna with Vieira.

Folks are generally too quick to dismiss Reyna. The new US Youth soccer initiatives (Small sided games, changing rules to allow/encourage playing out of the back) are an improvement and I believe Reyna had his fingerprints on this before he left.

I will say it again. The skills necessary to succeed in MLS 2000, MLS 2005 and MLS 2010 are not necessarily the skills necessary to succeed in MLS 2015 and with NYCFC in particular. The more focused the Club is on youth development the stronger the Club will be in the long term. I think that focus is more important than aptitude in plucking rejects from other teams off the re-entry draft or even having a slight edge in NCAA scouting. I don't assume Reyna is not an effective GM because he didn't envision Zizzo switching to back and being successful or because he thought Mullins is better than Grella. Its hard to tell from a fan's perspective but I dont see any reason to be hating on Reyna as NYCFC GM.

Because there was ONE good, non-DP player acquisition last year and his hand picked coach decided to keep him on the bench?

Does one equal RJ allen, Patrick mullins, Poku, and TMac?
I still think TMac is at BEST only a late game sub. He was performing above his threshold at the beginning and came crashing back down at the end because he's not a 90 minute player. I do like him for a change of tactics at the end of the game, when the other team is tiring and he's fresh, but otherwise he's too slow and defends too deep to be a starter. JMHO

I agree with you. I have no clue what T-Macs true position should be. Definitely not winger though.
