Timbers Postmatch

[QUOTE="Fantazma, post: 142068, member: 974

It was a fantastic experience in the stadium and Us 50 or so that we're there we chanted as much and as loud as we could for the majority of the game. I think you hear in the replay of tmac's goal us chanting really loud "tommy Mac"

Oh don't know if this was mentioned but all of a sudden we started chanting to some timbers fans that were throwing banter our way. real loud: " you got grabavoy" clap clap... clap clap clap
....Portland is awesome place and very friendly people at least in my experiences in this trip[/QUOTE]

Fantazma , You were 50 strong representing us. Believe me you were noticed, I listened to the Spanish radio Broadcast and they mentioned 50 fans from NY and that they would try to interview you guys, if any of you spoke Spanish . . . did they ?

You'd think, but someone complained about the guy in VA with the "Kids First" vanity plate that said EATTHE. :( They took it away when someone said it was potentially sexual. which is seriously fucked up.

Yeah that's just funny -- there are much worse things they could chant to kids that would legitimately upset the PC police.

Pigeon was used in the recap article of the Timbers game on MLSsoccer.com. It was edited shortly after it was posted. The moniker seems to be talking root... much to my disdain.
Ugh... Why do some want to be associated with flying rodents??? A little more self worth folks!

Pigeons use the sun, magnetics, and visual landmarks to reliably find their home from almost anywhere. Incredibly smart. They mate with one partner for life. They've adapted and thrived in man made environments better than any other bird. If we are giving credit where it's due, pigeons are pretty amazing

No no it's better to be nicknamed the Cityzens because not being standalone and always having manchester mentioned is better. Plus we get to say Citeh with awful british accents.

Sure, and they also carry disease & defecate everywhere. And they aren't even as creative as their land-loving cousin:

That is all well and good, but if you randomly ask people in NYC to name 5 pests, most if not all, will have the damn pigeon on that list.

They are one of the few animals that can recognize themselves in a mirror and can fly up to 90 mph.
Despite their reputation from the real disease carriers ( humans) pigeons are very clean and do not transmit disease.

A unique and honorable mascot for me.

Dude. You're really into pigeons.

There are three diseases associated with pigeon poop. Most won't be affected, but those with weaken immune systems will be. Also, the excrement deface buildings, not to mention aids in their deterioration. There is no doubt these animals have benefits (served as messengers throughout history), and are generally decent looking, but because the amount of food readily available to them, they spend less time foraging and more time breeding, causing overpopulation; they are certainly a blight to the city. That is a definition of a pest to me and surely a moniker I don't want the team to be associated with.

Unless you're going to look up the facts, please stop posting nonsense. Here's a government website that lists the diseases pigeons carry and can transmit to people:

http://www.nyc.gov/html/doh/html/environmental/pigeons.shtml

If you want to continue disputing that, go ahead, but your opinion shouldn't get in the way of scientific facts.
