But offensively there were definitely 3 up front with villa, Harrison, and Mendoza. A fourth in Matta since he spent so much time racing into the box (but yes moreso as a midfielder).

In a 3-4-2-1 the left and right forwards are supposed to tuck in and also track back to help the mids while the full backs overlap. The design is for the full back to have a trailing option if the cross is not there. I don't think Mendoza or Jack were supposed to be wide. It didn't have a 3-4-3 feel to it IMO.

As much as I liked the 3 back formation and think that is what we need to win in the playoffs...unless Pirlo and Frank are going to share minutes, I can't see PV sticking with it.

For the people not going full in on Eirik yet, I think the biggest difference that you aren't focusing on is the distribution. Yes, Eirik may not have been in the right spot and made a slower decision on a cross or two. However, those are minor problems considering:
1.) Saunders is also suspect on a lot of crosses and
2.) Saunders' overall positioning blows

The major point here though, as I stated before, is the distribution. Whenever Saunders has the ball at his feet, it's like a ticking time bomb waiting to go off ending in a terrible pass to the opposition/ an under pressure or not open defender/ out of bounds. We all have a mini heart attack as we hold our breath waiting for the destruction to happen. With Lurch, he was confident on the ball and able to send passes not only to our CBs, but also chipping some to our outside backs and even sending one or two up to Harrison. Having a goalie that knows how to pass in a possession offense works wonders for our team and its setup. Communication was an issue I feel between him, Brillant, Iraola, and Chanot, but that can be worked on and improved with more time together.

I haven't always loved his distribution, but I thought he was very good yesterday.

Also, shout out again to NYCFC_Dan for the tickets right behind the net, section 014b. They were amazing and it's insane being that close to the players.

My friend and I had a fun first half, especially when we were able to heckle Brad Stuver, the CC goalie. One of his defenders sent a terrible back pass that got past Stuver and ended up in a corner for us, which ended up in a goal kick after we missed the net. I screamed at him "Hey Brad, if you can't even stop a pass how are you going to stop a shot?!?" he actually turned around, made a face, and said "It was a shitty pass, what do you want me to do?" and shrugged too.

Never thought I'd actually get a response through the constant heckling consisting of "Pass it to that guy Brad, no not him," "No, your other left," (when he turned it over) "Nice pass, Brad."

Heckling the goalie from there is the best. I sat one row back for the Seattle game last year, and Stephan Frei didn't hear the end of it.

Mendoza and Villa switched places a few times, including when Mendoza scored his goal.

As for the turf - looked great, but yes, many people slipped, including Villa when accepting RJ's pass that led to the first goal. Thank goodness he recovered.

Shout out to the front staff and Chicken Bucket FC for the fantastic atmosphere and the FREE chicken buckets that somehow arrived to my section which was AWESOME.

I had to explain to the people in front of me about the chant since they had no clue what was going on and they were so freaking confused and then amused, and finally on board with it by the third time we did the chant in the first half.

Way to go everyone!

It was hard to assess this game.

I don't know what formation was officially announced, but my eye at the game showed a 5-2-3 which automatically turned into a 3-4-2-1 offensively when Ronald/RJ push up. It served it's purpose well, despite the soft goal given up. Matarrita was great and RJ was very good. I like them serving the ball in. Visually we may have looked bogged down, but that is what the formation is built for...a more locked-down counter attacking football tactic. Our transition was really good, except we couldn't capitalize on chances.

When the Pirlo/Lampard switch happened, we went back to a 4 back line. It would automatically open the game up. Even though Pirlo was off yesterday, it was more or less the formation/tactic change that opened things up. Which is a good thing to have the legit ability to make tactical changes mid-game and have it work.

At first I thought he was protecting Eirik..but now my thinking is that PV understands that we can concede goals in the regular season and recover, but we can't do that in the playoffs. We need to tighten it up. I liked it, but I'm used to watching Italian, especially Juve style football. It may be boring, but it generally wins.

You should check out all the well deserved criticism i'v given to Andrea on this thread!! One things for sure GiGi's at home staying discipline under a Juventus regime. His buddy's not !!

I may have voted a lot in the final minutes to give Villa a win. Back to back Goal of the Week wins for David Villa. Now it's time to get Eirik his Save of the Week. This round ends at 3 AM which I am not staying up for to confirm him in the Semifinals, but he has over 61% so I think he's save. The next round ends at 12 PM or 1 PM in the afternoon...

In two years, this game was the first time I clearly heard the chant from 136.

Also, did they just give out empty buckets? Or did they actually give chicken/fry filled buckets?
