The early trades we executed in season 1 were mostly Reyna's, those seemed to work out reasonably well; for example Poku, Villa, ectera. Then Kreis got involved and created the dumpster fire that was the rest of the team. This caused concern at CFG, the investment vehicle that actually owns all of the teams; i.e. the guys who can fire people at Manchester.

This concern, for the significant investment that is NYCFC, started to become apparent after we couldn't win for 11 games in a row. The result of which was getting players like Angelino, who we were never supposed to get our grubby mitts on, and the high priced DP reinforcement that was Pirlo; who had just started a champions league final.

After missing the playoffs during the first year, and seeing the possibility of a terrifying drop in attendance and revenues from a city that is used to winning, CFG panicked just a wee bit. They fired Kreis and every coach except the goalkeeping coach, and brought in their version of the MLS go fast team. Namely, PV and any coaches he wanted to bring; checkbook officially open, get who you need to win. Oh and you've been allocated way more usage time with the CFG scouting system.

Sometime during this sorted affair Reyna reminds CFG that we need at least two years to fully fix the roster because of how rules work in a salary capped league. This in no way caused additional panic at CFG.

So the situation that at the start of year two is that CFG have sent over all their fixers and hired a few to make sure NYCFC sticks to the plan; never miss the playoffs. This is the situation we find ourselves in now.

So the answer to your question of are we benefiting from the mother ship or not is most easily answered with, yes. With the caveat that NYCFC is its own team with its own staff. Whats really happening is that we're engaged in some actual corporate synergy, which I'd thought was mostly a BS term for something that didn't exist. Don't make the mistake of conflating MCFC with the actual mother ship though, those are two completely separate concepts and entities. Any help we received, or appeared to receive from MCFC was at the direction of the CFG execs looking after their American investment.

CFG are the hard nosed guys that have actually managed to do the impossible and make being a top spender in the PL be profitable year to year. If last year and this year didn't work out, they would slash and burn until they got what they wanted.

All good in your post, but I take offense with the "city that is used to winning" line, because the Knicks have been selling out MSG for decades without ever winning anything, and there must be a significant overlap of Knicks and NYCFC fans. That said, for those of us in that position, to root for a team that actually wins is quite sweet, and after watching NYCFC win like this I can tune into a Knicks game again with a little better outlook on life.

Not much to add to what's already been said.

The new beer deck in center field is actually awesome. We sit in 238, so now we just have to walk across the aisle to get beer. It probably has the best field view in the entire stadium as well

The one in 201 might be even better. I'm not sure I see any reason to sit in my actual seat anymore.

The first half was how we can play this season. 2nd half was as good as a preseason game to judge. I hope the Callens, Chanot duo stays this good. Sean Johnson is light years better than Saunders. If we continue to play this possession, build up style play, we will be very tough to beat. Played similar last week, this week we scored. Also, watching the game back...Ian said Viera said he'd switch to a 3 man back line if we have trouble scoring.

How in the hell is Villa way out in front in this? Just when I think I can't think any less of the opinions around here.

I voted for him only because of the incredible goals. Both of those were absolutely sensational. Was he the best player on the pitch? No -- but on a day when you could make the entire team MOTM, I picked the guy who made my jaw drop to the ground twice. Those two goals were unbelievable.

Villa was terrific. Gets a 9

Maxi played very good but not great. Just rewatched the game from home. Picked some poor passes and had the ball taken off him a few times. Struggles in MLS physically. Gets a 7

Wallace is a breath of fresh air. Maybe the most important signing for us because he unlocks Matarrita. There were at least two times today where Mata pushed forward and got caught out. Wallace shifted into LB seamlessly. Gets an 8

Harrison has improved noticeably. Such confidence. If you watch the match, he tries serving a ball onto Wallace'S forehead in the 25th minute and just misses. They flash to PV and he has this big grin on his face. Watch it. He gets an 8

That may have been the most complete match played by Pirlo, outside of his free kick delivery. He gets a 7

Alex Ring allows Pirlo to be Pirlo. He's a destroyer in the midfield and picks up messes. People here get on him for playing as an 8 and not a 6. News flash - that's his position. Broke up multiple plays today. Very athletic. Gets an 8

Matarrita plays so much better when paired with Wallace. He defends well one on one. Got caught out multiple times today. Sometimes he ended up in the area of a #10. Still has horrible positional awareness. He gets a 6

Ethan White was ok. Gave up possession easily but defended well. Gets a 5

Callens and Chanot get a joint rating from me. It's clicking. Callens is such an athletic CB that he provides strong cover for both Pirlo and Matarrita. They get an 8 today

Sean Johnson played very well today. Had 3 good stops. Distributed pretty well. Don't know whether to blame his long distribution on the wind or him. It'll give him an 8

Tommy Mac played ok. What a difference in athleticism and touch with Wallace though. Put in a nice shift. He gets a 6

Herrera gets an N/A from me. So does Okoli.

On MOTM, I'll add that I also voted for Ring on that ballot -- I thought he was terrific. He linked up the midfield so well, helped out defensively, retained possession, was tough to dispossess, and started a number of offensive chances. He is going to be a major force for us.

On the flags question -- I thought those were the flags of the Gold Cup competing teams. There seemed to be a lot of advertising on the boards for the Gold Cup, so it looked like that's what at least most of those flags were. I could be wrong about that, though.

Did get to watch the game not will I do to being out of the country, but what were the significance of the net colors? The highlight videos are so much fun when they are filled with winning goals!

Yes, they are advertising the Gold Cup.

The worst of today's game was the frigid weather. The goals, the win were magnificent against one of the best teams in MLS. It has just come to my attention That at our home opener , our weather conditions were mild compared to the Minnesota United (1) vs Atlanta United (6) game, was snowing heavily. Congrats to Atlanta United too.

I'm going to leave this question...

Was this the best 90 minutes we've played against another full 11 team ever? (Colorado match 5-1 was vs. 10 men for a majority of the game...)
I think Midas was right. This is the best we've ever played. Makes sense since this is the best we've ever been as a team.

- . (And there wasn't an Israeli flag during the pregame introductions...)

That's just me not showing up holding it out behind the bench. Don't know who else did that. Has nothing to do with Etihad. No one ever said anything to me other than I can't hang it and have to hold it (that's the rule for all flags)
