Didn't Gerard buy beers for all the fans when he first signed. That has to count for something. Maybe if Pirlo brought us all some wine we'd take it easier on him.

Yeah, he bought a ton of beer for the supporters group before the first game. No question he was a great guy and teammate, but he just wasn't able to adjust to MLS, be it the pace/physicality or the travel or the differing altitude/temps - or maybe he just wasn't a good fit at LA. Dunno.

Alessandrini is already better than Gerrard

What did he buy? I would think Howard has the inside track.

Pirlo lead the team in assists last year with 11 and played almost every game. I'd say health puts him ahead of Lampard and with the assist contributions he easily passes Gerrard who did next to nothing. He's been extremely disappointing this season but to totally write off last year is some serious recency bias.

But this ruins the narrative at this forum of LOLPirlo! You're no fun!

The fact that it's even a contest considering the stigma of delays that greeted Lampard's arrival contrasted with the Enthusiasm at Pirlo's arrival... I don't know I'm not sure that's exactly flattering to Pirlo.

Worse than Lampard. Better than Gerrard. Don't know enough about Defoe to comment.

I also don't know enough about Defoe in MLS, but I wonder if it isn't a unique case when a player flops here at a relatively old age, and then goes on to continue starring in a much more demanding league (the EPL) up to an almost record-breaking longevity. I mean, it can only be lack of effort or bad fit. But that would mean he needs a permanently against-the-ropes team like Sunderland to actually poach goals? As if teams that create a fair number of clear chances in a league where parity rules and the level of defending is much worse isn't his thing? Like "something this easy is below me" kind of problem? Puzzling.

How are people feeling about this game? Can someone talk me into feeling confident? Not that I feel we are going to get blown out, its just that I think this will be a difficult game. Herrera back into the starting 11 and I think we go into Atlanta and get 3 points. But Lopez isn't Herrera unfortunately. And Atlanta has been playing better since they moved Villalba up front instead of the immobile Jones, and Asad will be playing in this game, unlike last time we played. Again, I think our team is capable of beating anyone in this league, I just think this will be a competitive game.

Also, it sounds weird to say, but I hope Sean John has a great game. Obviously if the goalie has a great game it means something was going wrong in front of him, but still. Going back to his hometown, playing against the team that signed him only to ship him off 10 minutes later. The Milkman can deliver for us

If Mikey plays composed and restrained, like the last game, we win this. My caveat is that I want White in the starting 11 and not RJ. Breaking it down, our CBs are better than their forwards, and Ring can disrupt their midfield. Villa wants not just #50 but one to grow on - he'll be motivated as will his wingmen.

1. The game is on ESPN. Last time we were on ESPN, Villa did this...

2. We have not let in a goal in the final 15 minutes of play all season.

3. We have a full week of rest and training for this match. And a 100% focus on this match.

4. We had three different goal scorers last time we played Atlanta. And they are all healthy.

5. Lopez showed he can hold his own in the midfield vs. Orlando. Lopez will be able to match Atlanta's pace.

6. Bobby Dodd plays narrow like Yankee Stadium so it will be a similar field experience for the game.

7. Tata is suspended is you think that is a weakness for Atlanta this game. We went 1 Win, 1 Tie when Vieira was suspended last year.

8. Atlanta beat Houston 4-1, but Houston hasn't won a game on the road all season. We have won 3.

It's going to be a tough game. That's all there is to it. We are playing away at one of the better teams in the league, and that's always going to be a battle. In our favor is that we were clearly the better team at home a couple of weeks ago. In their favor, in addition to home field, is that they have Asad back, and we are missing Herrera.

Does anyone know the actual field dimensions at Bobby Dodd? It's the only MLS stadium that hasn't announced it publicly - at least that I can tell.

It looks really small from the TV angles and social media posts...

http://www.ajc.com/sports/atlanta-u...me-games-georgia-tech/PfSMgd3CvSsveYVbNFLoEL/

Officials from Major League Soccer approved the use of Bobby Dodd, which features natural grass with strips of artificial turf running along the edges of the sidelines. The width of the grass and turf is 72.3 yards. The length of the field is 129 yards. FIFA’s prefers fields of minimums of 70 yards wide and 110 yards long. Eales said the club will work with Georgia Tech to replace the strips of artificial turf with natural grass. The stadium seats 55,000 for football.

Couldn't find anything concrete on the actual dimensions on the size of the field used for soccer.

Easy, they've beaten Minnesota when they sucked historically, they beat a pre Schweini Chicago, shitty Salt lake, and the Dynamo. Credit for drawing TO and Portland, but I don't know where they got some reputation as a top team. Caveat that anything can and will happen in a 90 min soccer game, but we should control play.

Yeah I agree, the results don't match the rep. They have a decent offense with young flashy DPs, but their defense is weak as you'd expect from a year 1 expansion team. The fact that they start Jeff Larentowicz is a pretty good sign that they have some considerable holes. Good leader, solid MLS experience, way way past the point in his career that he should be starting for an MLS club.
