RB Postmatch

So, Rodney Wallace's ridiculous Yellow Card means he is suspended for our next game, which is Wed, September 6 against Sporting KC.

Wallace has also been called up for Costa Rica for their World Cup Qualifiers just before that. Wallace will likely be playing the night before the Sporting KC game, which means he wouldn't have been playing against Sporting KC anyway. MLS has a rule that says if your suspension occurs while you are away at national team duty, then you are suspended once you are back. I am not sure how that applies here, when he is back, but very likely to not play anyway.

We will see.

If he's in the stadium he is back. If they suspend him for the Portland match it will be another bullshit on him. Wasn't even a card to begin with.

Twice we've had a players on 4 cards get a bullshit yellow card to merit the suspension. Herrera now Wallace. VAR needs to review everything.

The first red bull game we took it to them, played our game and ran them off the field. Last two games, we tried to sit in on defense and outlet to the small guys, and looked like ass.

Starting the second half, we played with Wallace and Harrison up the field and amazingly that led to possession and a goal.

He's got the wingers too defensive vs red bull for some reason. Let the defense worry about defense and create more than you concede. He's playing right into their plan by allowing them to have their center backs at midfield.

That said I might be underplaying how horrible Lopez is for the team. Worst player I've ever seen and it's not close.

I also enjoyed Ulrich Ulrich doing the mental gymnastics to explain why their multiple great chances don't count as chances.

The fans did the tifo. I can respect that.

But the front office played Brass Bonanza, had someone dress up like a Whale, and literally bought a cake.

When we get our stadium within City of New York proper, they will cease to be relevant. And there relevancy is starting to fade already.

Can we get someone to superimpose Red Bull Arena on Fudgy the Whale?

Hey T Tom in Fairfield CT , it's only mental gymnastics if you can't comprehend and are stubborn as a matter of principle. Seriously dude, did you fail physics and geometry? Hitting the outside of the post is not a goal scoring shot - there's no way the ball can go in because it's outside of the goal frame. At that point who cares if the keeper has been beaten - lots of shots beat the keeper that aren't goals.

When pundits talk about hitting the post, it's a moot point to bring up. The only time it hasn't been is when we hit the underside of the post and the replay showed it went in except VAR wasn't in effect. Then again, with how worthless VAR is it wouldn't have mattered.

The team needs rest and for its players to heal up/come back from the suspension roulette. Playing this way will not get it done in the playoffs...but I think we all know that.

I look at the last few games as karma for outplaying the opposition so much earlier on.

Also, I know MTL is technically in a playoff spot now, but if you don't call them a playoff team, RBNJ hasn't beaten a "playoff" team since the end of April. Their schedule gets brutal now with some tough road games, so they really needed 3 here. Holding them to a point was a big deal for NYCFC.

They beat the defense and beat the keeper, but their shot was two inches off target, it's a good chance no matter how you slice it.

The converse is to say they beat the defense and beat the keeper because the defense and keeper had the goal mouth covered.

Felipe taking a shot from outside of the box that hits the bar is not a good chance. He took a punt and was lucky to hit the bar. If he was good, he'd have scored like Giovinco did earlier this week.

This forum has a hard time admitting we're one of the deepest teams in the league despite not having an academy running yet.
We aren't. Sounds tautological, but we're basically deep where we have depth, and not deep otherwise. Right now, I think we are okay at wing and maybe CB when everyone is healthy. Every other spot is really 1 player deep.

If you think depth means bodies to put out there such as SAL and TPFKAU, then I guess we have depth. I don't consider that depth.

Worth noting that the Red Bulls were in a different formation for that first game then they have been in the next two games.

It wasn't just that we were constantly lumping it forward. Plenty of times they tried to build from the back, but our passing was terrible. Maxi was passing right to a RB. Villa had some terrible passes. Jack either had a terrible pass, or dribbled it too long and got dispossessed.

Also, saying Lopez is the worst you have seen sounds like recency bias. Did you not watch Nemec or Lord Kwame in year 1?

I don't get shitting on Mikey, RJ, et al. Mikey should be an occasional late game defensive sub on any MLS roster. But we've been killed with injuries, suspensions, and a DP who's gone over the cliff instead of just over the hill. RJ played a few good balls last night and made some big mistakes. Mikey wasn't great but he played the role he was supposed to and didn't have any major errors. 2016 Mikey would've been laying people out and getting stupid cards, he has progressed. You can't plug in third-string players and expect them to play like starters. We played both, lost a defender to injury, had TMac in the game, and still came away with a good draw on the road. If you have hate to direct at the bottom of our depth chart, doesn't it come down to who crafted the roster, and who's picking the 11?

Im not mad at him (Mikey)for sucking im mad at PV for starting him

I thought Mikey did alright last night. And other than what I thought was an obvious makeup for the missed BWP foul in the box from RJ, last night was just a tough match where they wanted it more than we did, and we somehow, someway, stole points.

RB are a solid squad, and us sans four regular starters (Herrera, Chanot, Mata, White) and an invisible Villa -- walked out with an away point.

Invisible villa got the assist

Yes. He did. Villa will Villa, but his best chance at goal was 50 yards out (header? Nah).

He was harassed all night and was desperately looking for space and they gave him zero. I'd argue they marked him as well as we marked BWP.
