New England - Postmatch

Taty sure is missing the weak foot. Damn.

Sands starts next week. And it’s broken English but it sounds like Dome wants Sands as his opening day #6 next season.
I’m not sure I want Dome as my opening day coach. His player management is worse than abysmal- after his subs, the game was never the same.

Why the fuck should Dome be here next year?

Why not? He was the messiah about a month ago.

I'm personally of the opinion that you don't have to sack the manager after you lose against the run of play with your last 18 available players, but maybe I'm old fashioned. We should have battered them tonight. Fucking stupid sub to bring on Amagat when we had them on the ropes, mind. He looks crap.

This team misses Medina badly. Never thought I'd say that. He's capable of leaving defenders on their ass like Castellanos, except he doesn't shit himself when he's one-on-one with the keeper.

Props to Sands, who rarely looked
out of place.

Let us not forget Mr. Johnson's poorly timed spillage...
He was a horror show. I pointed it out 4-5 times in the shoutbox.

He was struggling to understand what the defenders were going to do. Made for a lot of harrowing moments. You could blame those on the defense or keeper or both.

The spills back in front of goal, though, are solely on SJ. I thought it was one of his worst matches ever.

The first that happened this morning was when I opened the fridge and reached for a bottle of water, a plastic cup (with lid) of ice coffee fell out of the fridge and right onto the floor.

I knew it was going to be a bad day...it was.

I really don't have anything to say compelling about this game. Taty's shot deserved a penalty as it was a handball and the check lasted like 2 minutes. The scheduling/stadium situation is against us. Dome didn't play it right. We don't have the right players. We're backing into maybe the 4th seed and it's not going to be pretty at all during the playoffs.

Well, where to start?

That was generally a shamefully low energy performance, not enough urgency - maybe up until the 85th minute or so we didn't even look like we were trying to win. Players standing, not enough communication.

A lot of good football is about triangles of passing and you can't have those when you have two players passing and nine others fucking watching.

We started out with a lot of crosses coming in to no one at all in the box, eventually changing system to have a couple of runners.

People who booed Amagat when he came on, that was stupid and you should feel bad. He didn't have the best performance - some nice link up passes, but some far too heavy passes that destroyed momentum - but Jesus, booing our player when he comes on the field? Give yourselves a round of fucking applause guys.

Positives at least - Sands looks like he will come on to a game and I was a fan of the Mata at central midfield experiment. The wee man runs around like a headless chicken sometimes, so his energy was useful and he found himself at the base and top of the midfield making some nice link up plays.

I dashed from the airport to make this game and I shouldn't have. Should have just gone to the pub.

ETA: in our five years of existence we have yet to figure out how to score from corners. Every time NYCFC gets a corner, sit down, we ain't doing shit.

Well, except Lion. He’s a cupper it seems.

A few thoughts from this match:

1. This team has no identity. It’s like they won against RBNJ with long balls and now any team that might press - long ball city. The Revs came in to play defense and this made the game easy for them, play balls in the air and defend. It’s like the team has no idea how to play.

2. Castellanos has to finish that chance in the first ten minutes. He had time to take a sip of coffee in alone with the keeper. That early goal kills a team who came in to bunker and play for a point (which the Revs did). I thought Taty had poor decision making. He should have been subbed out for Lewis, not Amagat.

3. Speaking of Amagat, I’m done. The team got worse after he came on and the Revs scored. And then, since Dome fucked up that sub, he then fucked it up even more by taking it Sands who was controlling the midfield. Game was over then. Amagat is an example of coach goggles - he hasn’t played for months before coming here. Come on.

4. I hate to say it, but Villa had a quiet match, was too cute. Barcelona Villa has 2 goals at least tonight. I hope that this is just his usual taking a few games to get back in shape but fear that this is the end.

5. And finally, fuck not having a stadium and working around the Yankee schedule. NYCFC’s “quirky” schedule is costing them points - I feel like the guy in Clerks saying “I’m not even supposed to be here!” - the team isn’t supposed to be playing in an international break. All these 3 games in seven days and then 13 days off fucks with their chemistry. Oh, and if everybody gets healthy, guess what? They have 20 days with no games in October right before the playoffs! The schedule is costing them results. Enough already.

This team is done, folks. Clear your calendar for Halloween and Nov 1. They are playing a game one of those nights where they will inevitably lose to the Union or Montreal or some crap team.

Also, speaking of form, NYCFC is probably the sixth best team in the East: ATL, RB, CLB, PHI, DCU all better. Season is done, you can see that the players don’t know what to do.
