Toronto (Home, Playoffs) - Postmatch

All that crow that I ate the end of the season, with the success that Dome led the team to in 1st, got puked up tonight.

One, that presser definitely shows his mind was already out the door... so he’s a mofo just like Vierra.

And two, as I’ve already mentioned, because I’m really disgusted with this facet, his tactics were amateurish trash from selection of the bench, to initialized subs, to implementation. He literally made one change all match, subbing Heber, but otherwise no formation shifts, no protecting tired players, nothing.....

I’ll be happy to see him go - I want a manager that wants to be here, not somebody looking down the road to what’s next.

totally agree. we should have gone to a 3 man back line. taken a very tired and walking liability mata off for Sands. would have given us more numbers in the midfield, which was where we were getting torn up almost all game. Isi was also very tired and needed a sub to bring GMS on. If anything, he would have provided the pressure on the TFC backline that we needed.

Yes! I want someone that's gonna bleed NYCFC blue...not someone that's gonna treat this like a pet project and already knows they are moving on in two years. Sadly, I can't see that happening though.

I don't remember where I read/heard this, but it was about signing players who really wanted to be in NYC and wanted to play for us. Not just coming for a paycheck or as a stepping stone to move on. Players who were gonna bleed blue.

So it kills me that we did not find a coach with the same feeling. Why can't we have nice things? Why can't we have a nice stadium to call our own and a coach who wants to stick around for the long term and build a championship team? I AM SO DISGRUNTLED!

I am happy I did not took that long trek to Citifield. A tepid season ending . While playing at Yankee Stadium , the team did so well.
Lalas was very rough with our team with his comments when he was interviewed by FSI after tonight’s game.

Oh quién podrá ayudarnos?
We need Chapulin Colorado!

Don’t mind me folks for trying to be lighthearted.

I will try to explain the above Spanish comment
Chapulin Colorado ,is a popular TV, Mexican superhero character .
Everything goes wrong with him,
WHen the characters’s on the comedy , are in trouble, their SOS calling card phrase to Chapulin is,

Oh, ahora quien podrá defendernos (oh who can defend us now ?)

And like magic Chapulin appears shouting “ Yo el Chapulin Colorado! And you can imaging everything that can go wrong goes wrong with Chapulin

This why i’m Laughing . Trying to find some humor on today’s game.

May I move this to the Toronto (Home, Playoffs) - Postmatch thread?

With two managers gone to Europe ( assuming that is where dome is going) it’s more like cfg sees nycfc as a manager stepping stone to Europe.

Edit: Van Bronkhorst May be more of the same, though he has won in Europe

I've never seen a player melt down like Mata did in the last 10 minutes of that game, in any sport, in any context. To give away the penalty is one thing, to spend the rest of the game with your head in your hands makes me question your mental aptitude for professional sports. If we move on from him, I'm not upset.

Even right after the goal... throws his head in his hands, mopes about, then realizes *wait, actually* and grabs the ball and runs it to the centre spot. No, dumbass, grab it right away, stop feeling sorry for yourself...

If so CFG should get it’s head out of its ass. It’s obvious that the managers see it as a stepping stone to the point (possibly) two in a row can’t see out their contracts. But as an organization, their goal should be a destination for managers - there zero money in manager transfers/losses - and a stepping stone for players.

On the ball where Mata lost his mind and chopped down Laryea, Laryea was basically away from goal, Maxi was covering (like five feet away from Laryea) and there were 3 other defensive players back and I think one Toronto attacker in the box.

Fucking ridiculous.

I was in 110 and the sight lines from there were complete trash. I spent half the game either looking up at the video board or standing up when the ball went to the end line. Thanks front office.

easy for us to point this out after the fact, but he had no idea in the moment. he just thought he needed to make sure there was no cross and he was hopelessly late.

We are where we are in the food chain. Whether it's the players or the manager, there are plenty of people here who would rather ultimately be somewhere else. Doesn't mean they're not trying to win. Doesn't mean they're not emotionally invested. Doesn't mean we'd be better off if they left.

Mata was awful from the get go. Work rate was poor. Positioning was poor. His head wasn’t in it from the beginning. I said to another poster early on that he would cost us a goal. I thought it would be through not getting back or falling asleep.

Because of how he played defensively, I thought Dome should have gone 3 in the back at halftime and removed Keaton. That was the move. Or take off Mata for Rocha.

When Mata committed the foul, Rocha was preparing to come in for him. Ironic.

Maxi was FANTASTIC tonight. He was all over the place.

I can’t believe we didn’t dress 3 DPs.

Reffing was iffy both ways.

If Dome goes...woof. That’s an indictment on our franchise.

I don’t know how much rope Gregg Berhalter has left, but expect to hear his name connected with the job if it opens.

I thought Johnson played well tonight.

If you watched Maxi and Johnson, it seems like no one was comfortable with the positioning of Callens and Chanot tonight. At all. Looked all out of wack.

Thought Heber looked really rusty. Taty great work ethic again. Mitrita did nothing.

All in, good season. Disappointing ending. Really liked the crowd tonight. Felt like a playoff crowd. Citi Field again wasn’t prepared but whatever. Can’t blame
The field or stadium for the outcome.

Did anyone else hear Lalas’ comments about our ownership at full time? WOOF.

Shake Shack was delicious.

Disappointed that when the ball went out to touch right in front of Lion, he didn’t clear it away with his head, Harry Maguire style.

That was really pathetic to watch - both corner kicks had him as last man back, in the middle of the field by himself, with his hands on his head. He was broken.

I'm sad, I'm mad, I feel like punching a hike on the wall then break down sobbing, I decided to come to the game, to see our exciting team get farther than they have in the playoffs, I cheered when I didn't see jozy in the lineup, then I got to me seats and I wanted to cheer and sing, but it was so quiet in my section, just 2 over from the supporters. The academy was there and they didn't look like they cared about the game at all. The slopes seats made it impossible to see whenever anyone stood up, and then to give up the goals we did? I can't believe we did that to ourselves again against fucking Toronto with penalty. I love this team and they made me go to a shitty stadium to watch a shitty performance. Matta should have been a backup years ago and if he does stay with the team he cannot be the starter, we need a real LB, how many pks has tinnerholm given up this season. I was ready for extra time and we throw away the game. So much more to complain about but I can't even think straight. There better be a stadium announcement this off-season, unacceptable to have a playoff game not at home!

God, not Gregg. God, please no.

And the ball didn't reach my row so I wouldn't have been able to head the ball, or even catch it.
