Away 05/10 - Red Bulls

Don't know what the SG plans are. So our little meetup pre match is 5ish at ODonnells pub on Harrison Ave. Details and contact info here: http://nycfirm.net/?p=102

From Harrison PATH station
Go north along F.E. Rogers blvd (about 5 blocks), turn left onto Harrison Ave. Go through 2 trafic lights. Look on the left side of the Street.

These are good folks, so let's be nice to them. Then join whatever march to stadium TR & other groups have planned.

All blues welcome.

I'm sorry but this team plays with a shaky defense and no one to kick the damn ball into the net. I would not be surprised seeing the Red Cows demoralizing our team once and for all.

Philosophical Question.

Is it really a derby?

A derby is a match between two teams from the same city, but the Red Bulls aren't in the same city as us.

eh close enough i guess, to me to even call it a derby gotta freaking have a few games played at least. But there are other "derbies" around the world that are two clubs who are not in same city as well. Just same "region" and this can be that.

I am going to assume for this game that we will have Villa back at full strength, and Nemec since we saw him practicing at the end of last week. I think Calle will be available for half the game, and I assume Hernandez will still be out since we haven't heard anything from him. KWS is suspended and not available. Based on all that, here is my best XI for this game.

-----------Saunders-----
-----Facey-----Wingert-----
Williams-------------Brovsky-
-------Poku----Jacobson------
------------Mix---------------
Shelton----Nemec-----Villa---

Of course, we will see Grabavoy instead of Poku. I liked Facey at CB in preseason way more than I have at FB this season. You can probably assume that Kreis will squeeze in Ballouchy somewhere too, possibly at Shelton's expense. We did very well at shutting Dom Dwyer down as a single striker, so I am confident we can keep BWP quiet. Klestjian v Jacobson/Mix is the battle to watch. Go Blue, carve that beef!

I'm quite looking forward to this game. As it's the first meeting between the two teams, it'll be interesting to see how it begins to shape up the "rivalry" that seems to be brewing up between the NY and NJ teams.

I love how the red bulls are now a jersey team! lol

Haha, yeah, I know. I guess I just call them a NJ team since they play in NJ. Kinda like how the Jets and Giants play in New Jersey but are said to be from New York.

As a Giants fan, that breaks my heart!!!

Well remember that they did start as the NY/NJ metrostars

Our team isn't playing that well and will prob get crushed :-/ but im sure it will still be a good time! I wasn't able to get tix and I'm still looking for the right ones

I think our boys in light blue will put up a hell of a fight though. Even if they were to lose, they'll go down swinging, scratching, and clawing.

I'd called it a Bridge/Tunnel Rivalry. Hudson River Rivalry. The Corporate Clash.

I don't have much hope for the HRD but those games tend to be crapshoots. So who knows? I'm not going to be super disappointed because my expectations are low.

The Tyne-Wear derby in the Premier League. Is between two cities 12 miles apart.

12 miles apart… sounds eerily familiar.

Traffic can get pretty bad around RBA so definitely get there on the early side just to be safe. And will there be an NYCFC tailgate going on in a certain lot?

Both the Jets and Giants started in NY. They played here. The have long history here. They just happen to have had the best stadium opportunity in NJ. They are absolutely NY teams. Nothing like the Red Bulls.
