Well I missed this match up until the 75th minute but from what I saw of 3rd and 4th goal Pirlo is dominant in the midfield. Those 2 passes to set up assists were clutch! Every ball is pinpoint.

Amazing.

AND FINALLY with the introduction of Pirlo we had someone linking our defense to midfield to attack, we actually looked like a cohesive team rather than three static sections. He kept dropping back and picking up the ball, and giving an option for the attack/higher forward midfield to pass back safely instead of always trying to force a difficult ball.

Ooooh what a lovely match

Villa: MOTM
Pirlo: Game changer
Poku: beast mode in the second half
Mix: phenomenal
Angelino: a joy to watch
Mena: I think he will be good, he already looked better than Kwame. He is definitely rusty.
The defense as a whole needs time to gel.

This game put the rest of MLS on notice. This NYC squad with Pirlo (and hopefully Lamps) is for real.

We really nailed the Villa signing. He's been working his ass off for the team since he came back from his injury. His hustle is really encouraging to see, especially because he's the captain. My MOTM

I'm sure everyone's going to love Poku's performance but he was just as bad as anyone until Pirlo came on. He doesn't know how to position himself to get the ball and always has his head down, running into multiple defenders. Pirlo coming on + Orlando having to chase the game created the space for him that he thrives on. That's why he can't play as a 10, more of a CM that allows him to charge into the opposition's MF instead of already being in the thick of things.

Ballouchy. Meh.

Tommy Mac works his ass off on defense always but had a rough game on offense until the Calle goal.

Calle's performance was really good considering our expectations going into the game. Always pressed, won the ball back a couple of times. His work rate will allow Angelino to stay up the pitch even more.

AJ is capable of making the occasional nice play but he often looks like he has no instruction. I'm starting to hink Kreis tells him to just go play and see what happens.

Our back 4 is a mess. IDK what else to say. Hopefully Mena's mistakes are a lack of practice because he at least showed flashes in the first half.

Mix, despite playing out of position (again) looked great.

Pirlo's a god.
