U.S. Open Cup 2017

lol yes this i was aware.....i was referring to 2010 since i cant remember that and didnt feel like digging for it.

I know technically none of the NASL teams needed to be in this but USSF is always iffy with these rules.....i mean RGV Toros cant play but Reno 1866 can even though they are both affiliates.

EDIT: I meant they are both Hybrid teams

Wait really? What's the rationale for their different treatment?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

according to what I read on reddit....USSF gave the option to the parent of the hybrid if they wanted to let the USL team participate....dynamo said no and San Jose said ok. i think because Dynamo didnt want their players cup tied if they got called up to main team as season went on.

Well our backups are shit so it doesn't matter we play, we're gonna lose.

their main team is garbage this year.....before our game i felt like saying even our reserves can take them....but then damn that did not look good vs RSL.

i guess its NJRB in our first open cup game. this year

Dont we start with a NASL/USL (or lower team that upset a couple clubs) before we can meet an MLS opponent?

i think this year there are more MLS teams joining in RD 4 than non MLS teams from previous rounds...so some MLS teams play each other. Portland played Seattle once in RD 4

Then you're right. They probably start us at NJ, just because there would be nowhere for us to play.

this is the bracket right now....looking at it if we dont play RB we play winner of possible rhinos-GPS omens ( dont think we will maybe Revolution plays winner here) or reading- harrisburg ( maybe union plays winner here.... i would lol if its reading vs union since its their PDL affiliate)

Red bulls it is

surprised they would allow Union potentially play their PDL affiliate team

EDIT: where will we "host" i think YS is available that week but not sure if they would allow it. Should be full squad since our game prior to this is the union June 3

Some notes regarding the "coin flip" and who will host.

- US Open Cup 4th Round is Wednesday, June 14 and may be moved up a day
- Yankees last game that week is Sunday, June 11 with a 1:05 PM start time
- NYCFC hosts Seattle on Saturday, June 17
- Yankees return Tuesday, June 20th with a 7:05 PM start time

- Red Bulls host 2 MLS matches this year, NYCFC hosts 1.
- I don't think that the attendance even at a US Open Cup match would merit using Yankee Stadium if we get to host. The grounds crew would have 3 days from the end of the Yankees games to the start of the Open Cup match to get the field ready.

it will draw....there are lots of RB fans in the city they will go as well. granted it wont be the 25/26 K of people in regular season game between them because its weekday but if promoted right it can get close to 20K.

plus fordham is farther from my job lol

Can we keep the discussion in one thread? Maybe in the US Open one that already existed and already posted the news that makes the title for this thread before this thread existed. And now people are double posting?

We need a mod merge here.
