2017 Pigeon Cup Semifinals Results

3 Piece Suit Ultras 105 Khiry's Magic Boots 85

Malinska FC 102 Put A Ring On It 86

In a massive repolarization of the universe Khiry had a good weekend in reality and a lousy weekend in fantasy. I thought Toronto would crush SJ and Gio was bound to get a bunch of points as a result so I captained him. Half right.

Congrats to Pigeon Cup Finalists 3 Piece Suit Ultras and Malinska FC.

I was looking at the wrong opponent all weekend. Oops. Same result anyhow.

So far, I have:

1 red card + suspension for -5 (Delamea)
1 yellow card accumulation suspension (Gonzales-Pires)
2 DNPs (Kamara, angoua)
2 played only 45 minutes (Nguyen, Garza)

Ouch.
I had a good Wednesday, and I've decided that fantasy soccer is the opposite of golf. The cliche about golf (which I don't play) is that you can play a round, hit 10 strokes above your handicap, but have a single tee shot that is straight and true and pure and long, and it is all you remember until your next round.
Well, I played 4 ATL players. 3 of those 4 scored goals and 1 of those had a hat trick, but all I can think about is that I Captained the one who didn't put the ball in the net (Almiron). That he actually got more fantasy points than 2 of the goal scorers doesn't even help.

Things are looking up for me! Garza a scratch in the ATL - ORL game. Wait....

If anyone captained Martinez this week. Hats off to you.
That sob sabo did, against me in our head to head. It hurts to do well and lose. Also like mark said I am killing myself for not capping the guy with 2 hatties

I was secretly rooting for him to win last week so the final would coincide with out real H2H match; glad to avoid that now.

As for the final I managed to squeak out a win but even that I mismanaged. I was up 12pts with 2 skc defenders vs Nguyen and Nikolic. I told myself to switch at least 1 out for jungwirth. Worst case I miss a shutout, best case Nguyen goes buck wild on skc and I double lose. I let it ride though and 4min in the shutout potential is gone for skc and I'm hating myself. Meanwhile SJ get the shutout I thought they might. If it boiled down to me not making that move and I lost, I don't think I'd be sleeping tonight. Thank god NE have comeplety lost the plot the last two matches. If Nguyen had a full team twice I likely wouldn't have had a chance. He's good for minimum 5+ a game with a full roster when he picks up all the attack/def bonuses and he very likely could have scored/assisted if they had 11men. It's really unlucky for jack, you really cannot prepare for that at all.

Big difference from captaining the 1 point Giovinco last week.

Looks like Jack/3 Piece Suit and Okoli are both going to lose this week putting some distance between the top 2 teams and the rest of the Elite Donor league. Gotta feel for Jack even though he knocked me out last week. The Pigeon Cup format is really a fantastic way to run the league to give everyone a shot at winning.

Broke out of my slump this week just in time to get back in contention for some of the other leagues. All year I have wanted to win the trip for 2 to the MLS finals in the EOS league and have the finals be at Yankee Stadium. How perfectly ironic would that be? Looks like I have just have to win 5 weeks in a row to make my half of the vision a reality. I have new hope for those sweet NYCFC boots Dan put up for the Forums league.

Welcome to the club, Rimil Rimil.
aye

Edit:

whoops, I suppose something more elaborate and gracious is required to commemorate the enormity of achievement, less I sully the tournaments good name.

I would like to thank Sabo Sabo (the aforementioned S.O.B. who whooped me this week) for organizing the tournament and providing his commentary each round. Thanks to mgarbowski mgarbowski for being a money guy and using his financial acumen to put the prize money in an interest bearing escrow account so as to juice the rewards by ~20 cents (you did that right?). Thanks to Jack for being a worthy opponent and keeping me enticed to the very end, max enjoyment points I suppose, beer on me for that. Thanks to LionNYC LionNYC for providing the motivation to my team. Overlooking the 7th seed which limped into the knockout rounds was the just fire we needed to perform in the championship. Next I'd like to thank all past pigeon cup winners for welcoming me into the hallowed halls. I suppose that's just joe joe for now, but we should get together and discuss what color jackets we are going to have made. After all our decisions set precedent and tradition (j/k I'm to lazy). Thanks to all participants past and present. And I suppose final thanks goes out to my girlfriend who asked repeatedly 'why do you keep looking at that website with shirts, what is so interesting about shirts?' Her inquisitive mind kept me hunting for the best looking shirt combinations to show her to maximize her baffled look. She'll never read this but she is the secret behind my success. Also, to everyone involved, I reiterate, she will never read this! So don't tell her about the prize, I'm not blowing it on flowers and candy. ;)
