Atlanta - Postmatch

These two teams are operating at such a level higher than anyone else. That could have been a European match last night.

I watched Everton suck and play a game of negative footy against freaking Swansea this weekend. Our game was much more attractive.

-Tinnerboom was quiet, which to me is a good thing against an attack like Atlanta.

For as much flack as Sweat has been getting, I'm surprised no one is talking about Tinny's play on the second ATL goal. It's always tough to pull defensively after a clearance and get right back into a defensive position after a turnover, but he was on McCann's hip, then left him while Almiron was breaking towards the touchline and found himself a step and a half off of McCann who easily nodded it home.

Granted it's a tough spot to be in, but I thought he could have played that better.

But I bet neither Paddy or Tata had a pint of gravy with a pint of wine chaser. So there’s that.

IIRC, Chanot put him in a catch 22 situation there.

Goes to show the depth of this team that I haven't seen a lot of comments concerning Shradi's injury. Does suck for him to get hurt when he has been on such a hot streak though
Was thinking about how we're now down 1 attacking player from the rotation, until I realized we have Lewis waiting in the wings..... and then I came to terms with we're still down 1 attacking player.

What's the over/under on remaining games Lewis plays in an NYCFC kit

I don't know, but if TMac is selected for the 18 against ATL, a team he has no business ever playing against with their speed and his unathleticism, then Lewis may never suit up again. Even if PV didn't plan to use Lewis, he's a better option sitting on the bench than TMac, because at least Lewis' pace and attacking prowess would give ATL something to worry about.

I feel for the kid, because he was heralded coming out of college, showed amazingly well in the minutes he got last season, and is now in an abyss.

There's some truth to this, but seems weird that you would call him out on it in this particular game. His passing is what led to both goals. Admittedly I yelling at the tv for him to pass it right before Ring's goal, cause I thought he was dancing on the ball too long, but he drew in 3 defenders before he passed it off.

You don't become a striker of Villa's quality by not being selfish sometimes. That's part of the territory, he wants to score goals.

I'm not saying he was bad this game, and credit to when he did pass, but there were moments where he could have slipped in Medina but chose to go at it alone and take a weak shot from distance, it almost felt like he didn't trust Medina to score which is something else that I find worrying and hope is just something in my imagination and not a real problem going forward.

Tinny just left him. I was pointing this out to dummyrun and some other random dude. Tinny is marking him, and then decides to leave him and mark grass. Callens was kinda in the area, but he wouldn't have been able to get there in time to contest the header.

Its not often I find myself criticizing Tinny, but this is one of those occasions.

I was telling people last night that I kinda wish I wasn't an NYCFC fan so I could have enjoyed that match last night without being a nervous wreck about it.

outdated meme is outdated, but bumping this because it is becoming more and more true unless you count Almiron as a CM

If Ring is their CDM instead of Larentowicz, Atlanta wins that game.

Atlanta went out and blew their load on Nagbe and Barco this winter. As a fan of their style, I love the moves.

That being said, as an outsider, those moves doubled down on strengths while missing a glaring weakness. Thy have absolutely no one to act as a pivot and no destroyer.

We're lucky in that Ring does both of those for us. They probably shouldn't have traded for Nagbe. Great player. Not what they needed though and in a 4-2-3-1, he's playing out of position.
