Bundesliga 18/19 will be back soon!

I'm intrigued to see how Bayern cope with a brand new coach in Kovac, who seems to be putting a younger Bayern roster through. I'm intrigued to see what happens, as I have no idea what this team is going to look like. In previous seasons Bayern's lineup and formation was much easier to see who was going to be starting where. With some aging stars and some new (& potentially invigorated) young depth, who does Kovac want, and where? Is it enough to get Bayern another consecutive BuLi title?

How will Schalke hold up in the Bundesliga now that they are back in the CL as well? I want to see Mckennie continue to shine for them and light it up on the European stage as well as in the BuLi. Where does Dortmund go from here? Is Pulisic still with BVB after this summer, and if so for how long? Does Marsch make the transition from leading RBNJ to being the assistant to Ralf Ragnick (former RBL sporting director) and then Nagelsmann in 2019?

Also, how does the BuLi hold up in European competition? Do they fizzle out and look like shit much like last year in CL and Europa, or do they get some strength and depth vs. the squads from France, Spain, Italy, and England?

I have almost no idea what to expect from a Lucien Favre-managed Dortmund, other than it will probably be more conservative. I hope he can keep Pulisic happy and developing.

Watzke is managing expectations, saying the goal this season is CL qualification and that it will take two transfer windows before they can make a legit run at the title.

I expect Schalke to finish above BVB this year.

I wonder if Marsch took the assistant coach position, while the Technical Director is the head coach, because he doesn’t have his UEFA license yet??? The TD is the head honcho in name only to circumvent Marsch not having the credentials to lead the team. He’s supposedly very close to finishing his course, and when that happens, if RBL is responding Marsch, then the TD steps down to focus on being only the TD, and they don’t miss a beat with Marsch getting the new title nameplate, and RBL buys out next years Manager. If they’re not doing well, then the TD stays on and they ready for the transition next year.

I don't think Marsch is going to replace Nagelsmann at all, even if the team does do well before Nagelsmann comes in. Up and coming Bundesliga/German coach vs. MLS/US coach? Nagelsmann was linked with going to Bayern last year. Marsch is going to learn under Nagelsmann if anything for a year or two, then probably take over as a head coach for RB Leipzig or RB Salzburg depending on how Nagelsmann feels/performs.
It is interesting to see what role the TD and Marsch play this coming year. Also interesting to see what RBL do without Keita (and potentially Werner).

Wow, Mainz is selling Muto to Newcastle. If Mainz don't get relegated this season, I'll be very surprised. They've done nothing at all to impress me over this offseason.

Anyone else follow the Bundesliga and would be interested in a Bundesliga Fantasy league?
I feel like I'm the only one here that's favorite league is the Bundesliga lol.

You're not alone, Bayern is my favorite team, period. Not many others here are interested in the Bundesliga, that's why I rarely post about it. Only thing that draws people are the US players in a few squads in the BuLi. Namely Werder, Schalke, Dortmund, and Frankfurt. Aside from that, people don't know/follow the awesomeness of the German League.

oh well then I'm afraid we can't be friends anymore... Dortmund's my favorite team, period. lol
Just kidding about the friends thing, of course.

What're your thoughts on the new season? Predictions for relegation/UCL/EL?
I'm predicting Nurnberg and Mainz to go down, (Mainz have had a terrible offseason) and up top I'm expecting the usual suspects: Bayern - Dortmund - Schalke - Leverkusen - Leipzig - Mgbc

They need a better broadcasting partner. I find myself more entertained by the product on the field than the other European leagues (not to mention the greater interest in Americans playing there). But the product through the tv isn't quite as good.

It sucks that it finally has a decent TV presence in terms of amount of games on each weekend/match day (3-4), but I agree that the TV product sucks ass. The announcers are so flat and un-enthused. They just use info that they looked up on wikipedia 2 minutes beforehand. I'm probably going to hear about Lewandowski almost going to Madrid in the summer window each weekend until December.

All good, I actually miss the days of the Bayern-BVB rivalry between 2011-2014. Those games were always chaotic barn burners too.

Sidebar- As long as you don't refer to the Bayern-Dortmund game as Der Klassiker, we can be friends. There's one Classico, and it happens in Spain. Enough with each League needing a "Classic" rivalry. If there was a German "Klassiker" it would be BVB vs. Schalke. Those teams/fans/cities are out for blood.

As for my top 5 and relegation battle clubs, I'm going with;
1. Bayern
2. Schalke
3. BVB
4. Leipzig
5. Hoffenheim

17. Wolfsburg
18. Mainz

I agree with you on Mainz. I'm only choosing Wolfsburg due to their shit form and I don't want an actual Bayern rival to be relegated.

The Sky Bundesliga german commentators are excellent though. I also rather like John Hartly. The rest are meh, but deep voice guy announces goals weirdly.
How can anyone forget John Hartley's "Lewandowski goes for it AGAIIHOOOOHHHHHH YOU JUST CAN'T DO ITTTT YOU JUST CANNOT BE THAT GOOD" that played at the end of every. single. bundesliga video on their youtube for like half a year?

As for the Der Klassiker thing- I'll call it that for reference, but Dortmund-Schalke is the game I look forward to more. I look forward to Bayern-Dortmund because it's a chance for Dortmund to catch up to Bayern- but nothing more.

I'm surprised you put Hoffenheim at 5, they don't seem that high this season. Nagelsmann is great, but they haven't been improving their players, especially after Gnabry, Wagner, and Uth (they're best players last season) are gone.

I wish Wolfsburg will go down, only because they sunk Hamburg :( (my second-favorite German club)

The BL desperately needs a resource-rival to Bayern. It has drifted into Ligue 1 (and, to only a slightly lesser extent, Serie A) territory where the outcome is a foregone conclusion every season, and despite usually enjoying the football it's hard to get invested in the league.

I say this as a Dortmund guy, though, so...

To me at this point I ignore the non-existent title race and just focus on the CCL/EL race (which is always quite interesting), and then the relegation race which, as the past year or two showed, can get quite intense.

Anyone know why the BL is the only major European team to do the 3rd place playoff? I love the idea personally, even if it's way too easy for the higher team to win.

Any reason behind the Hamburg love? Due to them being the only original Bundesliga team left (before finally getting relegated).

Hoffenheim- They also lost Rudy and Süle before last year (and Wagner halfway through the year), who were deemed two of their best players as well, and still managed to get 3rd spot on the table. It sucks for them that they keep losing these players, but I have confidence Nagelsmann will put together a team that will compete in the upper tier in the Bundesliga. But, I wouldn't be surprised at the lack of names they've lost over the past two seasons finally hurting them, as sad as that would be. Also, being in the CL may hurt them due to extra games and travel.

Hoping for Werder to rise up and be a top team again, maybe even on the shoulders of the Americans in the squad.

The BVB-Schalke Revierderby is the only true big derby in Germany at the moment. Unless 1860 management somehow manages to reverse the plunge of that other Munich team, it will be that way for a while.
