David Villa Sanchez [Forward]

Hasn’t this always been the worst kept secret/rumor next to Gio->Dortmund??? I’d be thrilled if he was signed as a TAM player in order to have three other DPs, and “not renewing” his contract leaves that open as a possibility (because his contract is currently a DP written document).

Hopefully he’d be open to that, especially after missing so many matches this season with two injuries. And if not, I hope he’s open to a future ambassador role with the club.

The article indicates that he would be offered another role at the Club, which would be great.

I think he still has a lot of football to give. He's been terrific when on the field - it's just getting him on the field that's been the problem. I wouldn't be surprised to see him play elsewhere for another year or two. I would prefer that be with us at a TAM level, but that's a big pay cut, and he can probably get more elsewhere.

He’d be a great offensive assistant. Maxi’s game has improved tremendously this year with regard to how he attacks as a forward with his runs, pressing, and post-ups on the CBs (like how Villa does it). It really seems like he’s modeled his game after Villa’s.

With any luck, MLS will amount next week the newest roster mechanism known as BSAM - Bench Star Allocation Money - to be used to retain former DPs that are not first-choice starters but can play at a high level between rehab stints.

They'd really be Lamparding that rule. A couple seasons too late.

Only to be used on former DPs that have completed their contracts and want to remain. I think Lampard was honoring his and then getting TFOT and back to London.

Sometimes you don't know how you really feel about a player until you see they might be leaving. And I sure as hell did not expect to be that sad when I saw that headline about Villa. There'll be one hell of a reception for him when we open a stadium one day.

What we needed for this to happen was Donovan still playing for the Galaxy.

Pretty sure the new mechasim will be “Bench Destined Star Money” for those teams that enjoy the pain of tying up their rosters with aging talent.
