Sharp Objects worth starting? Also, which should be higher on our (with wife) list, the Americans or Sons of Anarchy?

Didn’t watch sharp objects, so I’m curious what others say.

I would go SOA over the Americans. Both great shows. Both good endings too, which is important if you’re watching multiple seasons. I think SOA was a bit better written with more characters/subplots. Also, it will set you up for the new SOA spinoff the Mayans coming out soon.

SoA is for you, not her - I hit 7 seasons in 4 weeks. Your Wife probably won’t like it - mine turned her nose up to it immediately because there’s some graphic scenes that’ll be like WTF! The plot is pretty damn good with a few instances of “oh, come on, really?”

Btw, a spinoff to the show is starting next month - The Mayans, M.C.

Netflix has Ken Burns’ The Vietnam War now.

It’s one of the most moving documentaries I’ve ever seen. I saw it on PBS when it first came out and I’ve already done a re-watch on Netflix and I rarely do that with documentaries. Incredible narraration. The soundtrack is mostly done by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. Outstanding stuff.

If you like Martial Arts + no modern day tech + adventure + super over-the-top acting, special effects, and budget, watch Into The Badlands. Very very entertaining show! Just sometimes makes you go "what...?"

My wife and I have been watching both, and we're on the next to last season of each. I think it's pretty much a wash. They press different buttons. I do think SOA was maybe one season too long. I would have been happy if somebody told me just to skip the season in Ireland. The series as a whole is just dragged out, but there are enough good parts that we've kept with it. The Americans is tighter, and about one season shorter, as it happens.

Yes. This is as good as television can get.

Anyone watch the Zlatan doc on Netflix? Showed up after going through First Team. It was pretty good.

not on Netflix, but Phenoms on Fox Sports is really good...recommend it.

Did we ever talk Ready Player One? Just watched it. Thoroughly enjoyed. But I’m a simple man when it comes to films.

I’ll pretty much always like it if Spielberg is involved. Same for Wes Anderson.

Fuck it. I know what I like.

More importantly, Jack Ryan on prime went live today. Settling into episode 1 as I type.

Hope this is all I want it to be. Jack Ryan is one of my all time favorite fictional characters.

Plus, it’s got Bunk and Jim Halpert. Brilliant until proven otherwise

I binged it in 2 days. I felt it was good but lacking a lot of character development. Seemed like a B- Spy Series.
I agree and it was pretty predictable, a lot like the next-generation books in the Jack Ryan universe written by the new author.

I still can’t figure out what the point was to show so much of the Drone pilot’s off-hours life other than that the role is a PTSD minefield - didn’t move the story at all

Either, they couldn't write enough to improve the main storyline so it was just filler. Or it was just about what you mentioned.

Whatever the reason, if it’s not relevant to the story - then that’s just poor writing.

Just started watching Boca Juniors Confidential on Netflix. Not bad. All in Spanish with subtitles, so you gotta read fast at times.

Haunting of Hill House on Netflix. I'm not a big horror fan. This is the kind I am more likely to like, though. Not slasher, or jump scares, but a plot and character driven story that has spooky, scary elements.

The acting is very strong. I am only through Episode 5, which is one of the saddest hours of TV I can remember seeing. Episode 6 is reported to be both a technical and storytelling tour de force. After that I am not sure what to expect, though I have read that the last 20 minutes of the final episode is unfortunately a major disappointment and many say it should have ended without it. I presume it tacks on some explanation for everything that is very unfulfilling, but even those who take this position seem to love most of what precedes it. It also seems to be more popular with the public than with critics.

My girlfriend literally just texted me about what a great show it is. She just started it though. Watched it without me because I hate scary movies/shows.
