Atlanta - Postmatch - Eastern Conference Semifinals Leg 1

Yeah, that was after the first incident. I remember both and was screaming about the first one.

True story - earlier in the day, my kid's travel team's goalkeeper hurt his hand and the coach came on to see if he was okay. Even though the goalie was fine, the kid reffing the game made the goalkeeper come off the field, and the substitute, who isn't nearly as good, gave up the winning goal.

I was screaming about why does the Atlanta player get different treatment than my kid's U12 goalie. Consistency is all we ask!

Most of the game to me is a blur now to be honest. I only remember the big moments in the match: the ATL overturned goal, the ATL goal, Isi finger being broken, NYCFC disallowed goal.

Well, the U12 referee was not following proper protocol. A goalkeeper does not have to go off the field after receiving treatment. Therefore, a susbstitution did not have to be made.

How did Isma's finger get broken?

Ref fucked up really bad there. Goalies are the only players allowed to stay on the field even with medical personnel coming onto the field. All field players have to be brought back on by the ref. Your kids' team got screwed by a ref who doesn't know the rules. Unless kids soccer is different?

it got stepped on, if it happened during the play im thinking about. Havent watched on TV only from what i remember live
He around the midfield line right near the benches, slipped or got tripped by the ATL defender who then planted his foot on Isi's hand. Not sure if intentional though, was too far to tell. Isi was definitely in pain though.

So let me get this straight:
Twellman does this 9 years ago with two players around him and scores "the best goal in mls playoffs history" but when Martinez rushes into David Villa doing the same thing, that's a foul on Martinez.
>_>
Either the rules have changed for that over 9 years, or the officiating crew is just balls...

Not quite that the rules have changed, but I think "dangerous play" has always been subjective and it's possible that the interpretation has changed over time. Honestly my first impression was that it looks like there was less contact between Twellman and defender.

The reason everyone stated that Villa was called was because "It's dangerous to make a play like that when there's a player next to you", which obviously Martinez was, and we all know that Martinez lunges into VIlla during that play. Here, the two defenders don't lunge in the same way, but if anything I'd say it's worse because he went for it and the players were right next to him. Slightly off and that's in their face. Just my two cents though.
