MLS Cup Playoffs 2018 - MLS Cup Final

At this point I just feel like Atlanta are the best team at taking advantage of poor refereeing. Very cynical, very difficult to like for me, despite all the good things on the field and off the field.

Same. Yes, they've been doing well and have been excellent off the filed too, but for some reason something about them is so hateable. Toronto last year, Seattle the year before, yes were great, but they still had likeable qualities to their teams. This ATL team for some reason just feels really hard to even be happy for winning.

Also, Powell just missed the chance to bring Portland back to 1.

MLS Cup can be bought.

Hopefully this is a wake up call to CFG to start to spend money on NYCFC, especially with that DP spot. No promises of talent (Medina), guarantees of success (Almiron)

I hope this is great news for MLS. Atlanta United has now put down a marker. If you want to win, this is what it takes.

Hopefully in 10 years we'll look back at 2018 as the year everything changed in this league.

At this rate it seems like that will be every year. But probably 2022 in particular. Although I'm curious what economic downturn might do.

Oh and don’t forget folks. NJRB just clinched CCL for 2019 thanks to ATL winning the cup.

MLS CCL 2019 participants:

ATL
NJRB
SKC
HOU

Next year we go back to normal qualifying.

Well done Atlanta. Fully deserved

They are the class of MLS, on and off the field.

Credit to Arthur Blank for doing something nobody really thought could work in Atlanta.

And after the Falcons blew the super bowl, he must be happy.
You could see he was emotional. That win meant a lot to him. At least he has a sports trophy Kraft doesn't.

I still feel that the 2-2 draw we played away at ATL this season is one of the best MLS games I've ever seen, and I remember thinking at the time that it was the dawn of a new MLS.

I further believe that had Vieira not left and had Dome not broken this t eam, we could have and perhaps even would have beaten Atlanta in the playoffs. We handled them fine in those two regular-season meetings.

I agree that we handled Atlanta fine in the regular season, and I would have liked our chances going into the playoffs. I also think Atlanta raised their game in the post season in a way the other teams didn't.

Say what you will about our form in the 2nd half, but we had momentum heading into that series. In the end, there isn't much difference between the way Atlanta dispatched us and the way they dispatched the Supporters' Shield winners and the Western Conference champs.
