SI Story on Reyna Family

Terrific and heartbreaking story of Claudio Reyna and his family - focusing on the loss of their eldest son Jack. Worth a read regardless of whether you are an NYCFC fan. Good stuff in there about Gio as well, but the real focus is on Jack, as it should be.

Grant Wahl is a great writer. I need to find some tissues.

But on the NYCFC fan side of things: the discussion about dad thinking it’s best for his son to be in Germany and not with NYCFC really puts a black eye on other academy prospects with the talent like Gio ever signing here.

if anything it shows that any talent that is gio level to sign them right away to get something for them. since most likely than not they will not play in MLS as they are good enough to fight and earn spot in europe this cannot be surprising. of course not every talent is gio level if anything those are rarer.

If I were Gio, I’d very much want to prove myself somewhere that wasn’t “dad’s.” And better for everyone that it’s across the pond rather than across the river.

But we’ve been over this and there’s not much point retracing the arguments.

Gotham Gator Gotham Gator, thanks for posting. Great story, and I’m happy to know a little more about the Reynas. Claudio has been fantastic, and I’m glad we have him.

Only this place could turn a story about a family losing their child to cancer into a pissing match about our interests over a kid’s.

Way to go guys
The story spent multiple paragraphs on it - it’s not as if Wahl ignored the issue: it highlighted Mom’s point of view, dad’s, fans’, etc while also comparing the German living situation with Pulisic’s. Wahl could have kept everything written about Jack, but he didn’t and saw an opening to write also about Gio and his career with Adidas as a sponsor and moving abroad.

It's a story about the Reyna family, of which Gio and Claudio are members. This is a NYCFC forum, hence.....

Plus, not sure the posts above were a "pissing match" as it was a conversation related to a portion of the article referenced.

It was a rehash of something that’s been covered ad nauseum around here.

And some people still want to revisit whether a kid should do something just because it’s in the best interest of his fathers emplouer.

That was not brought up in this thread.
