It seems the rumors our true and though we lost our favorite player, David Villa will be back as owner of a new franchise in QUEENS!!! Minutes from where I grew up and probably many of you too. There's actually talk of a SSS that can hold 25,000 fans!!!! I'm talking actual REAL stadium news!!!

I personally can't wait for them to take deposits on Season Tickets. I want to tailgate, I want some local and interested ownership where we know winning is the first priority, I want a stadium. I want a team name that I can actually fucking pronounce when I say it quickly. I hope this thread can be the start of all things QFC. What I want to know is:

Consider me very interested, but I will need a lot more info yet.

What are the temporary stadium options? Belson isn't big enough for USL Championship standards (requires 5k) but maybe it can be expanded. If the local politicians are onboard, maybe they can push a temporary 5k stadium in Flushing Meadows (a la Phoenix Rising that built a 6.2k seater in a few months).

Or maybe they shoot for the moon and try to draw 10k+ in Citi Field? Honestly I'm way more likely to go to games at Citi Field than I would be at Belson even if Belson feels full and Citi Field feels empty.

I'd love Citi as the temporary venue. Especially if it was really, truly temporary ;)

Btw, all rumor point to the branding as "Queensboro FC" rather that "Queensborough" written in your title.

100%. I'm in.

I'll likely keep both tix while this all plays out. But that most likely means 1 SS for NYCFC and 2 for QFC.

Agreed. I'll hold my 2 SS for NYCFC, and put deposit down on QFC. If I can sell my NYCFC for cost years on out, I might just keep it up to hang out with old friends from time to time and catch a match or 2 that seems interesting.

This was from Melinda Katz' State of the Borough Speech. Do you think this rendering came from Villa's group?

Admittedly, that's pretty ambitious if it is just Villa and a USL team. I think FredMertz was the first in the stadium thread to suggest it could be a shared venue with NYCFC. If the stadium ends up looking like that I would assume we're watching QFC and NYCFC there.

Item #3 from my post.

Why not, right? I hope this actually comes to fruition!!!
So Villa will be going to Japan for one year, basically. And then returning back right after in time for the next USL season after that, it seems?

ETA:
Can you imagine a shared 25k stadium? That would be awesome, we could have twice the number of home games to attend in groups! And can you imagine NYCFC vs QFC open cup rivalry matches? Hooboi

I agree with this 100%. No stadium will happen unless NYCFC is splitting it with them. But there is absolutely nothing linking the two minus a former player at this point so kinda pointless to get hopes up for a sss that size. Also, don't know why they'd be shooting for that size unless they had other ideas for trying to reach MLS, but that wouldn't be happening, unless pro/rel becomes a thing.

It definitely says something that I'm annoyed it's been 6 minutes since I posted on this topic and no one else has added more news or analysis since then.

I remember feeling this kind of excitement around certain signings, the appearance of stadium news, etc.

But it feels like it's been a while since I've felt this eager to know what else might someone know or say on a topic here.

ETA: Shwafta Shwafta and Korker Korker posted right before I hit publish.

Maybe the 25,000 is to eventually purchase their way into promotion to MLS (like FCC, Orlando, MNU...)?

ETA: Also, look at FCC's Attendance #s: https://www.bizjournals.com/cincinn...-cincinnati-s-full-year-attendance-fared.html. They brought in over 25k per match.

And NYCFC drew 20,113 at Citi on 10 days notice for a regular season matchup!

If the price point is low, I think they can draw 25k to a USL contender with some star power thanks to Villa's friends. And then maybe eventually buy into MLS.

I don't think that's necessarily true - I think that's bias and entitlement speaking. NYCFC isn't the phenomenon us fans think it is, a "can't miss" opportunity for the city. There is nothing preventing another well organized soccer club from putting forth a superior proposal. Would Queens rather have the MLS team? In a vacuum, likely. But not if the MLS group is asking for ridiculous concessions and the USL group is actually a net positive economically.

I know Garber has already come out and said they have no more plans for expansion in NY (this was brought up to him about the Cosmos however, so take that as you will given their bad blood). But I still would strongly doubt they ever get into MLS without Pro/Rel for the simple fact of RBNJ don't draw well and NYCFC's numbers have been falling year over year (Yes, i know, Yankee Stadium blah blah blah). I don't think they will want to dilute the fan bases here anymore than they already have.
