2019 General MLS Transfer Rumors

https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2019/01/01/mls-2019-offseason-club-snapshots

Most notable move this week: Nothing from NYCFC this week.

Biggest move so far: NYCFC really haven’t made any "big" moves yet. They signed Tony Rocha, but he won’t be the main prize of the offseason.

Biggest question / hole: How will the club replace forward David Villa and central mid Yangel Herrera? Is James Sands ready for a full-time role?

Rumors have it: They've been linked to Peruvian youngster Kevin Quevedo as well as Paraguayan keeper Antony Silva. Also, keep an eye out – that Designated Player spot vacated by Villa isn't likely to go unused.

Projected starting XI (4-3-3 right to left): GK Sean Johnson – Anton Tinnerholm, Maxime Chanot, Alexander Callens, Ben Sweat – Alexander Ring, James Sands, Maxi Moralez – Jesus Medina, Jo Inge Berget, Ismael Tajouri-Shradi

We're very quiet. Around the league highlights, because there's nothing NYCFC related to talk about:

CLB: Most notable move this week: The Crew appointed MLS Cup winner Caleb Porter as head coach and Toronto FC mastermind Tim Bezbatchenko as club president. TFC won MLS Cup, Supporters' Shield and Canadian Championship in 2017 under Bez, while Porter helped Portland capture the 2015 MLS Cup against none other than Columbus.

DCU: Most notable move this week: Some have called 21-year-old Lucas Rodriguez the best player for Estudiantes. Now he's a D.C. United player (on loan with an option to buy). GM Dave Kasper says he can play on the wing or centrally and you figure he's coming in to be a starter. Who makes room?

HOU: Most notable move this week: The ageless DaMarcus Beasley is BACK! The Dynamo captain returns for another season.

LAFC: Most notable move this week: The defense is starting to take a familiar shape as the club announced left back Jordan Harvey has re-signed while Paul Tenorio reports that the club are finalizing a long-term deal with Danilo Silva.

ORLANDO: Most notable move this week: The club signed Homegrown forward Benji Michel after being quite busy last week.

Biggest move so far: There have been too many moves amid the Lions’ overhaul to name just one. Danilo Acosta and Joao Moutinho with fresh starts are intriguing and Jhegson Sebastian Mendez has big shoes to fill in the midfield.

SJ: Most notable move this week: The Quakes signed 23-year-old Argentine wingerCristian Espinozaon loan from Villarreal, who was most recently with Boca Juniors on loan.

TOR: Most notable move this week: No player movement this week, but the club appointed Ali Curtis as general manager with Bezbatchenko departing. (for CLB)

NYCFC placed a help wanted ad two weeks ago for an Executive Assistant which is a massively strategic move.

Do you know who I am? I SAID, "DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?!"
Why the fuck doesn't anybody here know who I am?
I doubt the cops could understand his accent when drunk..... Also probably Liverpool fans....

Not a rumor any more...... This kid wanted desperately to make the FC Dallas Academy, and they turned him down - he went on to sign with the Houston Texans Academy. After he signed with the Texans and led them to a national title, his academy director recommended him to FC Dallas where they signed him on an HG but due to limited amount of time with the club he'd have to wait to play for the first team so they called their partner club in Germany where he was loaned to their U-19s.... and a year later he has now transferred to Bayern Munich for $1.5M with a 40% sell-on fee.

“Out of all the center backs I’ve coached I think he’s the one with the most potential,” U.S. Under-20 coach Tab Ramos told Goal. “He has unlimited potential. All the other guys you could tell they’re good. They’re solid. I look at [Matt] Miazga, [Cameron] Carter-Vickers, Erik Palmer-Brown. I just think Richards has a really high ceiling. He also has great charisma, which other guys follow, and he makes a team better because of it.”

A very partial summary:
  • There is no budget trickery that will allow Atlanta to keep its 4 DPS.
  • Same for the Galaxy.
  • Atlanta can theoretically loan Barco and keep Almiron until the summer but doing so risks alienating both players. If I read it right, because Barca is a young DP, the loanee club would only have to pay his full proportionate salary to take him off the books. In contrast, because Vela is a full-age DP, the loanee club would have to pay both salary and the transfer fee that LAG paid to take him off the books. And in a 6-month loan that math gets complicated even by MLS standards. But in both cases, don't expect it to happen.
