NYCFC in the Media Thread - 2018

Nice article in the Athletic by Kristian Dyer on NYC and the coming off-season.

I wanted to like it, but didn't see a lot of signal in there amongst the noise. He says we need an alternative to Maxi but his prescription is "younger and deeper". Hard to see how that maps to his diagnosis.

I think we need to sort out the inverted winger / traditional winger / second #10 logjam we seem to have. And we need to fix the LB problem.

The most interesting item to me was reporting not opinion, when Dyer stated that players say they like Torrent’s communication style, which "resonates in the locker room." If accurate, it undermines the theory that Torrent lost the respect of the team.

Can't get close to wingers, not a reliable offensive producer. Not too bad at the inverted full back thing. Think we could do better at his projected 2019 cap hit.

Same thing was said publicly about Kreis while daggers were landed behind his back. If you’re a player still on the team, and perhaps that’s only half to two thirds of the roster +/-, are you going you voice your dirty laundry to a reporter with opinions that could be traced back to you by process of elimination, or are you going to put on a smile and tow the company line?

Was it though? This doesn't ring any bells.

This is a pretty specific thing to be said for it to be "company line".

Reyna came out and said the club is happy with the transition to Dome and how he communicates his ideas - that was a couple of weeks ago. If Reyna says it, seems like that’s the company line, no?

I was talking about where you said this same thing was said while Kreis was still here. I don't remember that happening at all and cannot find any examples.

In regards to this, I did find a couple of articles dated just over a month ago that was about Reyna discussing Torrent. I don't see anything in either of those that mentioned how Torrent communicates ideas. Perhaps that was somewhere else and my googling skills are failing.

Maybe I don’t understand what you’re asking, but when Kreis was here, players were openly agreeing with Kreis and how the team was playing, but the work was being done on the back side by at least two of the DPs to can him.
