NYCFC in the Media Thread - 2019

Pretty certain that's quite a hefty question lmao.
I am still under the opinion that after the offseason we'll do a lot better. but what do I know, I've never gotten soccer predictions right aside from the world cup going to france lol.

I’m going to try to remain cautiously optimistic as well. But that’s not good if I was a player on the team. You want them to be all in. And if they are second guessing Dome... I agree it’s a loaded question. K kvschnitzer you don’t have to answer. But we’re all wondering and someone had to ask.

Thanks for reading. Definitely a very important season for Lewis and NYCFC. As I noted, you don't trade that much money to have someone rot on the bench. But Lewis is very much PV's player, not Dome's -- which doesn't mean he's not good or anything. I wonder how it'll all unfold after USMNT camp and preseason. Obviously, that January camp is essentially showcase to other teams for JLew.

Thanks for reading!

Hackworth is a very honest coach who's seen Jonathan for a few years now. I omitted this from the story but he actually consulted with his son Morgan, who plays at Akron, about Lewis before bringing him in on loan. Morgan and Jonathan played together for a season and Morgan signed off on it, really praising Lewis too.

I think you need a larger sample size to really dissect Lewis' defensive efforts. I think Hackworth saw that during that stretch of games and Dome sees it in training.

Regarding PV: he was super tight-lipped around the media when the camera was on. It's probably just how he was media trained throughout his career, but he explained things away from the camera. I think he was just waiting for the right time to play Lewis since it was a very win-now mentality, but not sure why he fell out of favor for the first few months last season. I don't think Medina is a winger in Dome's team, fwiw.

Thanks! Appreciate the Twitter engagement too!

Of course. As for this season, I hope to focus more on feature stories like I did last year. I think those resonate better than the day-by-day stuff since Glenn and others do it much better being they are around the team more often.

In all seriousness -- thanks for posting and thanks for the coverage.

If Medina is not a Winger, that means...

1) Medina is a back-up
Or
2) Expext a number of Man City esque formations with two attacking mids
Or
3) Medina is on the way out

based on twitter chatter Dome really likes medina so i dont think he is kicking him out. so im sure hes finding a spot for him

Probably easier for him to answer on a burner account than one that he’s outed himself.....

You know in the article hackworth said Lewis defense was actually good if you reread it. There has to be another reason Lewis isn’t playing and I think it comes down to money we spend on players in attacking positions

Better keep that to yourself because it’s 100% opposite, and finally confirmation from a coach in plain talk, that the defensive narrative tossed around here isn’t on point. But hey, if Advanced stats say it’s true, then what does Hackworth know.

We just lost our beat reporter for the Athletic. He's making it out that there wasn't enough money to carry a reporter for each MLS team in the NY/NJ area. But he also does say that NYCFC's attitude towards journalists didn't make it easy to do his job. We all knew that, but someone finally came out and said it. Got to respect him for that.
