Villa..mls Latino Player Of The Year.....

#1 Why does MLS have an award based on Ethnicity?
#2 Hispanic and Latino, not the same thing
#3 Villa is not Latino

I could continue but will stop there.

Latino includes Iberians. Missing the problem.

I agree on your point though, why even have an award based on race.

Edit: okay maybe Latino doesn't include Iberians, but Hispanic does. And the award goes to anyone of Hispanic descent according website. I Don't know why the title has Latino.

Feels like a train wreck, regardless of whether it's technically correct to include him or not (I see arguments either way, online). Don't they audience-test these ideas?

i just saw this thread, yea this whole thing is a mess. he doesnt fit what they labeled as "latino". Like i mentioned elsewhere this was made to try and get more latinos or spanish speaking viewers to watch games. But i feel that this is already attempted by the having a spanish MLS twitter account and also having games on Unimas. there is no need for this any more.

I know this thread is old, but you all are wrong. ''Latino'' means that the language ''Spanish'' comes from the language ''Latin'', their roots, his origin is the ancient language of romans, Latin. Latin is not a race, or a kind of people, is the language of these people. The spanish people, the french people, the italian people are latins too, european latins.

So, MLS Latino Of The Year is totally correct.

I have to have this argument all the time when people assume I am Latino or Hispanic based on my last name, and I am neither. People ASSume that the terms are interchangeable and also think Portuguese is the same as Spanish. SMH

1. Its rather dumb to have such an award
2. Latino is not a race
3. Hispanic means tracing its roots to spain
4. Dont know what else, but there shouldnt be such award. Just best player award

If anyone who speaks a Latin dervied language is Latino than Pirlo qualifies.

A lot of these terms were created by the US census bureau and are stupid and purposefully confusing and contradictory.
