Suit Night Friday Night September 23rd v Chicago Fire

Indulge me, this doesn't ring a bell.
Male professionals of discerning taste don't wear black dress shoes. There's a long sociological explanation (mostly same reason you don't wear black overcoats), but it also just looks better to wear brown, tan, or cordovan/burgundy.

Black shoes are expected for evening/formal wear, but they should be patent (the "shiny" as Angela put it) or velvet.

But fuck it. I don't work on Wall Street anymore, so what do I care. Wear what you want. But be aware not everyone feels that way, and while it may not be held against you - if you're lucky - it never hurts to dress impeccably.

You really want to hear his rant again about how only waiters wear black shoes with their suits? Pandora meet box.
Well, as we well know, and according to Frank Zappa, Brown Shoes Don't Make It.

When I started working, burgundy wing tips were the norm for daily office wear. Then they went out of fashion, so much so that they disappeared. All burgundy color mens dress shoes just disappeared. I always thought brown shoes and a navy suit makes you look like a hobo, so I went black and never looked back. Comes a point in your life you decide -- not that you don't care what people think about what you wear -- but it won't decide it either.
I've been working a straw fedora this summer. More than a dozen women have told me they love it. My wife hates it.
I'm still wearing it. #Team50

What color shoes do you wear with a black suit?

Finally, a topic I can be relevant in.

Midas Mulligan Midas Mulligan I agree with you almost 100%. Still believe one needs a pair black dress shoes for formal night occasions. Keep those suckers extra shined up. (patent should only be for the tux tho).

mgarbowski mgarbowski Wearing burgundy monk straps right now. Burgundy is still in style. Classic traditional styles never go out of style.

Most importantly, keep them shined.

I admittedly have not looked for a while but really, there a was a period of at least 5+ years where I looked and could not find burgundies anywhere. I looked high end, low end, and mid-market, in catalogs, online and in person. If they've come back, I'll snatch some up.

You guys are off on the black dress shoes with a suit. Italy may say brown, but France would say often black, and in the US black dress shoes have been a fashion go-to again for several years now. You can't go wrong with brown, and they will always be the traditional and classic way to go with most suits, but don't be afraid of black. And burgundy is always a great classic look as well. Don't let the bird shirt fool ya'll.

Allen Edmonds has had them for a long while - they are certainly dapper and versatile.

I see my man Jack Jack answered this first. No wonder he likes the Rebs.
