New York Cosmos surive & move to Coney Island

Remember, that $10M was their loss on the year, but their operating costs were even higher. And that really begs your question of what were they spending it on???

was their only asset the "value" of their brand.

could it be related to the former NASL links with Traffic? and some funny business there? or perhaps it was related one world sport channel? i think i read somewhere they also had an ownership stake with the cosmos

The Chairman of both (cosmos & one world sports) is Seamus O'Brien and they're both going under. They had the ideology of spend money to make money. That may work but you need some kind of revenue and they had none. They even let promising young players leave for free like Haji Wright. It just made no sense how they ran there business. There has to be another explanation of this being a public and visible shell company to funnel dirty money.

So when are we expecting to hear a statement from the Cosmos themselves? It's gone on a little too long already. To not even put out some kind of a stalling statement suggests that they themselves aren't quite sure what's going on at present.

They didn't let Haji Wright leave for free. Haji Wright let them announce him as a signing because that's how bad they wanted attention. Everyone in the world knew he was Schalke's but just waiting for that 18th birthday.

So it was useful for Haji to have a club to play for and useful to them for PR purposes, but he was never really a Cosmos property.

Exactly. It was just a way to show how "independent" clubs didn't have the same restrictions MLS had and they thought it would lead into young american talent signing for them until they were old enough for europe.

are any NASL clubs (aside from Minnesota United who is schedule to join MLS) ready / good fit to join MLS?

if MLS wanted to be a nice guy, they'd give NASL clubs a deal on the expansion fee, but, I have a feeling MLS would love to gouge these clubs for money.

IMO only Carolina and Indy seem to be plausible for MLS. I know carolina is announcing a rebranding tomorrow and part of it is to " try and get an MLS spot"

Indy i think tried to get a stadium deal in Indy but didnt happen so they stayed put in NASL.

yep USSF meets today and tomorrow in NYC...... NYCFCfan NYCFCfan you gonna cover and get the exclusive? :D
If I could figure out where it is, you bet your ass I'll be there. I don't believe they've made the location public, so if anyone finds it let me know.

spoke too soon. looks like Carolina RailHawks are due for a re-brand and announcement that they intend to make jump to MLS.

there's even a countdown on their website for tomorrow's (12/6) announcement:

It was already leaked but can't find it. North Carolina FC!!! So original.

Why should MLS give an organization that has no ties to MLS a "deal" on the expansion fee? That's silly.

i know once they were in the marriott but dont know if that is their go to place

I don't know why USL/NASL would settle for Division II?

I know some will hiss and snarl at this but there's no reason they can't rise up and challenge MLS aside for FIFA/USSF mandates but I could see US courts getting involved and telling FIFA to shove it.
A league of the best from USL and NASL would be very formidable right now, I think.

Apparently Cosmos aren't dead.

In the process of selling to a "NYC company" hmmm...

Does USSF and/or SUM have an NYC office?

Maybe they can use Uncle Chuck Blazer's Trump Tower suite!

i know USSF is in Chicago....or in its suburbs....as for SUM i dont know....but then again MLS offices are here in NYC...but i dont think they are the ones hosting them.
