Crew Postmatch

Ciao, nonno.

Herrera and sweat made vieira look dumb. Thought sweat was more than serviceable on defense and good on offense. Should have played last week. Herrera too a while to find the game, but that midfield started humming as they could all rotate. Like a three man midfield should.

Wallace has been living off his first three games, no way he should be keeping camargo on the bench.

Ethan white has been better and better every match. One of the guys I am rooting for.

Great win, I really enjoyed watching that. Two teams that wanted to keep possession, and we ended up winning that battle. When will teams learn that they exhaust themselves trying to press is so hard. Columbus was shot by the end.

In an unrelated note, I started watching the game about 90 seconds in, then watched every second of the match after that. At no point while I was watching did they address why Villa wasn't playing. I honestly still don't know.

Also, I love Janusz and listen to him daily on the radio, but he needs a PA to stand next to him for the whole game making the "slow down" hand motion.
He was said to be sick, basically all week. He traveled with the team but stayed back at the hotel tonight. Apparently.

Not sure if it was during the first 90 seconds, but there was certainly a mention of it during the injury report, even with a graphic that had Khiry, Mata and Villa, who was listed as "illness".

Crew announcers were saying it was the flu. He was feeling better, which is why he traveled with the team, but apparently this morning decided he wasn't well enough to play.

Tom, I vehemently disagree with your assessment of individual players, while overall agreeing with how you evaluate our tactics more generally.

I do not know what match you were watching that you could ever take away that sweat is a good player. He's pretty...limited, to say the kindest possible thing.

Nice first touch. Tackled well, good crosser. What's not to like?

Hope he didn't double dip in the cafeteria this week or we're going to be starting the U17 team next week.

I'll admit I was a little distracted by the number of birthday beers I had consumed but I thought we had a pirlo-shaped hole in our game today.

And in the end it worked.

I'm ready to admit we may be better without Pirlo but not with the lack of tactical discipline we showed today - maybe it's just me but I saw a lot of chaos out there. I think we can play well with him and we can play well without him too - but the way we need to play is so different with and without that I'm not sure it is going to work for us to switch back and forth.

Maxi is looking better and better. After Harrison he may have been our best player today.

Very happy with the result more than I probably would have expected without Villa and being down a goal in the second half.

Probably Maxi's best game and Herera would probably be number 2 behind Jack for MOTM. Would love to see this midfield with Villa on the pitch. Herrera has to get serious minutes going forward doesn't he? Not just because he played so well himself (goal and large part in Jack's second and match winner) but because other's such as Maxi looked much better with him on the pitch.

I liked the effort from Okoli. He might not have done anything that special but he brings a different dynamic to the team. Hold up play and airel threat we generally lack. He (and Herera) gave us something to aim at with corners and free kicks. I'd like to see him and Villa on the pitch at the same time at some point. The problem then is who to leave out to make that happen? Maybe Wallace? I'd want Maxi-Ring-Hererra and Jack out there....so not quite sure if that works.

Now you are close to getting onboard with those of us who want 3 in the back. Welcome aboard. Mind the gap. And also, as we say here, don't hold the fucking door.

Are we finally seeing NYCFC 2.0 with Pirlo out of the lineup? Replace him with another DP Vieira wants and we'll be able to see the heights of this team.

I don't think Jack actually scored the final goal. I think it was an own goal. But it's been marked as his. Fuck it. We won.
