Here where I think this entire thing is bullshit. Sure, those architects designed our training facility. But remember all the talk about a stadium when Populous opened up offices in New York.

I don't think this firm will be designing our stadium. So don't read too much into it.
I relayed to everyone that Populous probably wasn't going to do the design about a year and a half ago. Populous came to NYC to get into the residential market.

There is no public transit issue. There's a LIRR station right there.
No, that's a bit crap. For one, there's no scheduled service to Belmont, it's only on race days. And Belmont is run by the state, but soccer is not. So who pays for the trains to run? Can they run enough of them to bring 20 or 30,000 people? What happens if you miss the last train? It just doesn't work.

You could then say, "well, just go to Bellerose or Floral Park and walk." Fine. First off, off peak tickets round trip to Penn Station are $17.50. Not cheap compared to the subway (which is free if you have a weekly or monthly pass). On weekends, there's only one train an hour. You can't have 15,000 people waiting for one LIRR train. And how many cars do they run on weekends? Capacity is 110 per car. Even if they run 10 car trains that'd take 10 or 20 full trains to empty out a stadium. The beauty of the subway is that it always runs. The MTA can stack up 5 or 10 trains on each of the two lines and manage the end-of-game overflow. That's not going to happen at Belmont.

Not to mention that Bellerose is not going to want that many people walking through their town after having had 17 beers at the stadium.

There *is* a public transportation issue, as basically there isn't any at Belmont.

God damn!! You drink 17 beers a match??? And at the stadium???? Even if you can handle that, it's like $250 of beer!!

Yup, that's me! 17 beers!

I can't take credit for the 17 beers though as that's purely the work of mgarbowski since that's one of the universal default numbers. And actually I'm rather a cheap date as I can't really drink all that much. I enjoy one of whatever it is but I'm not likely to want two of them, although that depends, of course.

Look at their options. Just like looking at colleges. You can apply to Princeton and CCNY. (Nothing against either).

EDIT: I should have written Columbia, because that's actually in New York. Princeton is in New Jersey and would be as bad as CCNY for the metaphor.

I am certain they will run trains on match day, and a lot of people will drive to the game now that it will be an option.

Lol If you think people will go over there. Not everyone drives to games at YS much less to Belmont. Thousands of people are taking the 4/D trains after the game. At this rate you have you have gotten fans accustomed to go watch team by using subways

Move the team to Belmont not many will go it's just how it is now

I also assume weekend traffic sucks around there as well

There's no way this can happen... most of us would prefer Yankee stadium over LI hands down.
yup. Make you wonder who this "going through the motions" is for? I mean honestly no municipality is going to be bluffed so easily, but im sure the fans would be more willing to accept another 3yrs at Yankee stadium over the thought of going to belmont.

Lifelong queens guy here.... I've never been to belmont. I wouldn't know how to get to belmont offhand. I would cancel my tickets immediatly knowing belmont would be the stadium location. Immediately!

The state really wants this site developed, and for fairly understandable reasons too, so it very well could be state agencies (or even Cuomo in the background) saying "we won't support you elsewhere unless you consider this site first." I would hope that the club would be smart enough to know that a future where flyers like these have to be distributed to fans and supporters is not one where New York City Football Club is going to last long term. (Seriously - $15 round trip? That would kill us right there)

I did a little potential trip planning and how I would get to Belmont, so this is just personally how I would get there.

I come from Binghamton. I usually drive two hours and 45 minutes to Tarrytown, and take the 35-ish minute metro north ride to Yankee Stadium. Total travel time three hours 20 minutes and cost me $18.50 (trains and tolls) roundtrip. If I bring my son it's $29.50 roundtrip.

Now, to get to Belmont would actually be better for me to drive about 2 hours 45 min to the Lyndhurst, NJ transit station. Change trains in Secaucus, and arrive in NY Penn Station. Takes about 40 min, costs $5.50... THEN catch a train to Jamaica Station, change trains again to Belmont. Takes about 35 min, costs $8.75 off peak.

Total travel time about 4 hours (that's if i dont miss any connections) Costs me $29.50 roundtrip. If i bring my son it's $60.00 round trip.

No fucking way
