Official Nycfc In The Media Thread 2015

Get this garbage off of the site. That dude is like 40 years old. He should try spending the time he spends tweeting about NYCFC on his beloved cosmos or most important, his fucking kids.

I don't understand what is happening tomorrow. Are they actually picking players, or just picking a pick slot for each? If the latter, why the big deal and event?

A) They are picking the order in which you pick.
B) Because it gives NYCFC and Orlando (and their fans) press and publicity and another news item to feed to news-starved soccer beat writers. Look at what the NFL did transforming the draft from a phone conference to a three day television event that keeps the machine of NFL press rolling almost 365 days a year.

I figure on a rough timeline of:
1) this silly draft for draft positions, tomorrow
2) Jersey release - mid November
3) Expansion draft - mid December
4) Round out rosters -Dec to Jan
5) Superdraft , Jan 14-18, 2015
6) Announcement of Xavi signing as 3rd DP - January 2015
7) Season starts- March 2015
8) NYCFC clinches supporter's shield - June 2015
9) NYCFC wins MLS championship - Dec 2015

Am I missing anything?

Tomorrow we find out our Expansion Draft pick (1 or 2), our SuperDraft pick (1 or 2), our USL PRO/NASL priority player ranking (1 or 2), Designated Player Ranking (1 or 2), Allocation Ranking (1 or 2), Discovery Ranking (20 or 21), Waiver/Re-Entry Draft Ranking (20 or 21) and Lottery Ranking (20 or 21)

Yeah, NYCFC wins U.S. Open Cup in September 2015.

I wonder if it's mathematically possible to clinch the shield by June.

The earliest it's mathematically possible to win the league in MLS is by the 20th round, based on the assumption that your team wins every game and every other game in the entire league season is a tie. That would be around the end of July/early August. So...no, unfortunately not.

Is it better to have the #1 pick in the expansion draft or the super draft?

In all honesty, as far as NYCFC is concerned, I really don't think they care at all. Unless something strange happens, you're not going to get much quality in the expansion draft. And with their scouting resources I don't believe the team is going to depend too much on talent coming out of the NCAA. As a matter of fact the the team has already traded away picks as is. My two cents worth(less) anyway.

You want the expansion draft #1 and yes it matters. If you are a NYCFC fan you better care. A few years ago the college draft was bigger but with a lot if talent now in the academies it's not as big plus there is no stellar #1 college player this year (so far).

There will be a few starting-quality players available in the expansion draft and if you have the first pick you got all options.

If you didn't care how much you spend or how many non-Americans you signed, yeah sure ManCity's scouting would help. But you have a cap and a restriction on non-Americans.

So yeah you care and it's important.

But they haven't traded first round picks; they've been trading later round picks. The first round can have some value. Last year, Fabian Castillo and Patrick Mullins were picked in Rd 1 and both have scored goals (though Mullins got off to a hot start and since disappeared). Toronto also picked up Hagglund, who has been a decent defender for them in his rookie year.

Year before that Andrew Farrell, Manneh, Hurtado, Dillon Powers were first rounders. Dom Dwyer was #16 overall in draft before that. So while the draft can be hit or miss it can be an extremely useful method of acquiring players. While I agree that the pick in the expansion draft is probably more desirable, it's still to be seen how many useful players clubs will leave unprotected. NYCFC will need success in both drafts to create a strong team for next season.

What do you mean? What about it do you think would be good for MLS? NBA free agency & talent acquisition is an incredibly complicated thing (which isn't necessary a bad thing)
When a player's contract expires, he gets to pick where he wants to sign as long as the team has the necessary cap space.
