UEFA Champions League 18/19

Best of luck today Midas Mulligan Midas Mulligan
Hope your reds suck ass and my reds somehow kick ass and Kimmich decides to occasionally help out on defense.
I'm afraid of how freaking afraid Bayern fans seem to be.

And no Virgil and no Big Dog. So no Fab in midfield.

I'm pretty chill, really. There's no shame in losing this matchup, so I'm not feeling too stressed.

I had no hope until I learned VvD had a yellow suspension and Lovren is iffy with his hamstring. Guess it'll be whichever team's defense is able to hold it together. A close and exciting match is what I'm hoping for, and no terrible refereeing decisions heavily weighing on the end result.

I really think that Fabinho having to play CB helps you more in midfield than it harms our defense. It might give Bayern a chance to get more of a foothold in the middle of the pitch than I think you would if Fab were in there with his go-go gadget tackles.

Sucks that we're unable to see a Thiago - Fab matchup in midfield. Would've been wonderful to seem him try and thwart our Spanish maestro. Sucks for us in having to play Javi instead of Goretzka due to a random injury. Javi has lost a step or two the past 2 seasons and isn't the dominating force he once was. Wonder if Keita will step up for you guys as well.

So much for the champions league anthem. Well done, Spion Kop and Anfield.

I ain't going to miss Goretzka.

Schwallacus Schwallacus how do you feel about things?

I’m actually a little surprised that Bayern seemed fine with taking the draw as early as they did, and also that Liverpool didn’t push harder once that became clear.

I thought we looked rusty - especially Trent, who had played 15 minutes in about 2 months before last night. Gnabry looked great for Bayern and had Robertson scared all night.

I am actually really, really okay with the result, given the probabilities. I figure it’s unlikely to be another 0-0, and any scored draw sees Liverpool through. If, like me, you figured it was always going to be decided in the second leg, I think 0-0 is as good or better than a 2-1 home win. It just seems almost impossible to think Bayern won’t score over 2 legs, and same for Liverpool. So I fancy the way the odds work out. Of course, Bayern also has to fancy the idea they just need to win a match at home.

So all to play for in about a year. Ughh. I hate the long breaks.

I feel good-ish. Definitely one of the toughest places to try to get a result in from an away teams perspective. Team showed heart and desire to get back and defend. Hummels and Martinez, who I thought would be the worst players out there ended up being the ones to save their teammate's asses on more than one occasion. Bayern had a few half decent chances, but we will need more going forward if we are to go through. Your makeshift CBs did well to keep Lewy and James contained, as Bayern struggled to really get anything going through midfield. Keita and Henderson did well to clog anything happening there. I'm one to think that had Goretzka been in it would've opened up some space due to Liverpool having to respect his pace and offensive abilities. Like I said, Javi was great defensively but added nothing going forward, forcing Thiago to go to the wings to try to do anything going forward.

Gnabry was the better winger vs. Coman. Alex-Arnie kept him in check for the most part. Still annoyed Serge didn't pick his head up to see Lewy wide open in the first half after a turnover, but he played really well.

It's a good result, but the lack of an away goal is meh from my POV. If Liverpool score even one half chance at the Allianz I don't know if we will be okay to actually win. I'm honestly surprised at the scoreless draw, especially considering some of the chances that were there. Liverpool seemed to be off or missing the final touch, along with some balls to the wall defending from Bayern.
I am happy Kimmich is out for the next one. I think Rafinha is a clear step down.
It's going to suck not having Kimmich there. He actually played a fuck ton better after getting the yellow. Not sure how Rafinha will fare, but it will probably be terribly vs. the pace of Mane and Firminho.

It was nuts.
Here's a view of Sané's bonkers free kick. (For future generations, vs. FC Schalke '04, his former club, during their first leg of the UCL Round of 16 tie, to level the match at 2-2)

Crazy goal. Two crazy endings to matches today. Expect City to have an easier time in the second leg plus 3 away goals. Juve especially with Ronaldo are not done at 2-0 though I really hope they are.
