Formation Speculation

Interesting. I've been proctoring finals and grading portfolios all day, so I'm just catching up. If we can get him for under DP money then I don't see any downside to him.

I would expect:

--------------------------Meara
---Williams------John------Hernandez-----Brovsky
------------------------Jacobson
--------------Grabavoy----------Calle
------------------------Lampard
------------------DP 3-----------Villa

Backup:
-----------------------------Saunders
---NEW RB------NEW CB-----Kwame-----Wingert
-----------------------------NEW DM
------------------Ballouchy----------Dunn
----------------------------McNamara
---------------------Mullins--------Taylor/LOANEE

John won't be ready for the start of the season, right? Best case is April or May?
Yes. I think Hernandez will start and be backed up by Watson. Wingert might be best replacement CB for now, have Brovsky and Williams on outside. You could also switch Williams with Wingert, then switch him with Brovsky. Brovsky is better at playing RB than Wingert.

Getting off topic here, but with how many international slots we have left, I wouldn't be surprised if we bring in another CB or two with more talent than Wingert and KWS. Like an Andres Mendoza. I think CB is our weakest area, and the rhetoric early on was that we'd focus resources at the position.

I agree. I think NYCFC will sign a non-MLS CB to start along Hernandez. I'm thinking a Jamison Olave or Kevan Waston type defender.

Do you think we didnt sign Mendoza because he didnt want to wait until now or because he spoke about our interest in him?

He probably didn't want to wait or his team didn't agree on NYCFC for price. Who knows.

I think we expressed interest in him, and he falsely took that as a guaranteed contract offer. I'm guessing Reyna and Kreis have been working with MCFC's scouting department to build a priority list of South American targets, and as part of that process they've been interviewing guys like Mendoza and Calle to gauge their interest and salary demands. They were waiting to sign guys until the expansion draft took place, because the positions of need after the expansion draft will alter the priority list of South American players.

Now that the expansion draft over, they'll probably start putting in offers for these international players to bolster what areas of the roster they view as the weakest (CB and CAM, IMO).

Regarding Mendoza, it looks like his current club, Deportivo Maldonado SAD, bought into these rumors and got the the player first, in order to flip him for more money. They're a club that "invests" in players like this, and apparently offers tax benefits to purchasing/selling clubs. (See: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-...200-fans-earns-14-million-from-transfers.html) Hopefully that's the case, and that they don't price him out of our range (i.e. DP level), because I really like his tape.

IMO, Lampard isn't a true CAM, McNamara is a 2nd year pro who is coming off a bad injury and Dunn has barely played any pro games. So yeah CAM might be a weak spot for NYCFC.

NYCFC team I made in FUT

Kind of off-topic but since he fits info the formation as our starter right now, what do you all think Patrick Mullins ceiling is? How good can he be?

Fringe national team is what I'd project. Best case would be making the WC squad as a late game sub option, but that is likely a huge stretch. Of course, that assumes we don't have Wondo spots. Basically, Wondo is his ceiling. But Mullins combines better and is more skilled, less of a poacher.

Velasquez over McNamera. George John won't be ready any time soon. Not sure if Wingert or Williams or Brovsky can play CB in FUT but they should.
They don't have Velasquez as a CAM In UT, thats why I had to put in McNamara.
