Long Island Supporters

Sorry to hear that AndreT_NY - I eat there fairly regularly and am yet to have a bad meal. Hopefully you'll give it another shot!

LI here. In Rockville Centre. Plenty of places in RVC to catch a match.

First post here, I'm from Merrick. Watched a few WC matches at that George Martin burger place up north of Sunrise on I think Long Beach Rd. Food was great, lots of screens too.

Just a thought. If audio is important to watch away games we may want to look for a place that is a little ratty. Not sure any of the places mentioned are going to accommodate NYCFC broadcast audio on a Saturday night at 8pm.

NYCFC Supporters,

I have developed an umbrella group within the Third Rail called the Strong Island Supporters Club. The three goals of SISC are to unify support for NYCFC on Long Island, to work with all of the supporter groups, and to promote the soccer culture here on the island and in NYC.

There is no membership fee (It is not a formal group and you do not have to be a member of the Third Rail to be a part of the SISC.), with the objective simply being to support the club in any way possible and to collaborate with the other supporter groups. For example, for supporters living on Long Island, this can help us plan trips to games, develop home bars, and to communicate with one another (In addition to the “Long Island Supporters” section in the NYCFC Forums, the Strong Island Supporters Club will have a mailing list and web site.).

Besides bringing together supporters on LI, my hope is that we can use it as way to open up the island for the NYCFC supporters in the five boroughs and in other areas. For example, if there is a NYCFC/Cosmos match at Hofstra, all NYCFC supporters would have a spot to be at before and after the match.

I am a member of the Third Rail and completely support the Brown Bag SC, BXFSC, and every group that is for NYCFC. But between how spread out we are on LI and the way that transportation is, I really believe that having a group here will be helpful.

I do have season tickets but it will be difficult for me to attend every match. But outside of actually being at Yankee Stadium, the SISC web site and mailing list can help all Long Island Supporters communicate and stay organized (Example: maybe some supporters from LI are heading to the match, while others want to head to our home bar, while still others want to head to their local pub that is showing the game).

If you are interested in joining the mailing list, please email me at strongislandsc@gmail.com. Also, please visit our web site at www.strongislandsupportersclub.org.

All the best!

Maybe we can meet at the AOLI home bar for away matches. The Beach House RVC.

Adam,

We are in AOLI as well and were at the WC matches at Declan's over the summer. Great time! Definitely plan on heading to The Beach House in RVC and the new home in Suffolk that they are setting-up. For SISC, I have it set-up so that we will go to Murphy's Bar & Grill in Mineola for specific matches. The match will be the focus on the TV's and we will have a small deal (similar to their good deal for drinks and wings for NFL Sundays). I will be going to Yankee Stadium often and hope to join rest of the Third Rail at Nevada Smiths for some away games. But we will definitely be setting up several matches to watch at Murphy's in 2015 (and hopefully beyond).

Just so you are aware, at this point, we have received more feedback from Nassau than Suffolk. But for Suffolk in the future, we are looking to keep it a little more general at Miller's Ale House in Lake Grove (not just for NYCFC but possibly for other leagues, sports, etc.).

For right now, my hope is that "less is more" at Murphy's (meeting up for a couple of games to gets started). The overall goal is for the Strong Island Supporters Club is to serve as a "network" for NYCFC supporters here on the island (If people want to meet-up at The Beach House or other spots, I am all for it.). I think it would be great as well to go on some trips to the home bars of the other NYCFC supporter groups.

Besides our home bar(s), web site, and communication tools, it will be very informal (no cost, no board, etc.). In talking to the people at Murphy's, they are all for us... so it looks like a great place for us to be. It is also a walk to and from the LIRR for easy access for some supporters.

Our form of communication for SISC will be a monthly mailing list (one email a month), with an occasional reminder or update. To join the mailing list, simply send an email to strongislandsc@gmail.com and you will be added to the list (you will be able to unsubscribe at any time). The first email is going to be sent out at the end of this month. Our web site is at www.strongislandsupportersclub.org and our twitter is @strongislandsc. I will send reminders and updates through this NYCFC Forum section as well. This is all just to keep Long Island supporters of NYCFC kind of organized and to let everyone know the options of where to see the game(s) or to meet-up.

Really hope to see you for some matches! Have a great holiday!

- Dave

What do you mean by "subsidiary" of the Third Rail? Not sure that's really the right word outside a corporate structure but maybe I'm being pedantic...
