Nycfc Training Fields Thread

We should follow the European season calendar.
Very well said. People don't realize that the best possible time frame for soccer leagues above the equator is spring thru fall. This gives the league with the most amount of days with the best weather and field conditions. It's a big reason a lot of players in Europe and senior fifa leadership have discussed moving their calender to be like mls. I really it will happen within a number of years.

They can sweep that field in an hour with a brush on the front of a small tractor. 10 day forecast shows weather solidly in the 40's starting march 7th. they are playing in the 40s right now in the UK. don't any of you kids ever play outside?

The harsh winter weather in the northeast, midwest and Canadian cities during January, February and even most of March does not allow for the fields to be in the best of conditions for the start of the season. Also, fields tend to hold up much better in November and December than in the Jan, Feb and March.

The league should look into starting the regular season 3-4 weeks later, in late March or early April. The regular season could end in November on the last weekend before the November FIFA match date. Playoffs would then start up after this and the MLS Cup would be played the weekend before Christmas.

The season could look like this:

Jan - Offseason
Feb & March - Preseason
Late March/April - Start of regular season
June or July - League takes 2-3 week break for Gold Cup, WC, etc.
November - End of regular season on weekend before FIFA match date
November/December - MLS playoffs and MLS Cup

Its been hovering around 0 degrees F for like 2 months straight...

There's been like 20 feet of snow. Our winters are far worse than Europe's because the jetstream isn't as kind to us.

If and when the jetstream shifts, and Europe is subjected to the climates they naturally deserve....they'll switch to our calender immediately.

Look at the weather channel 10 day forecast I don't see any sub zero temps in the future for Harrison.
Yes its cold in NY. Always has been. I'm going out now to tap my maples since the warmup is on its way.

I hope you're kidding and your're not just a dope.

We're talking about 4 ACRES of field to clean off. There is 2 feet of snow on 4 acres of turf. On top of that, there is nowhere to put the snow. Further, the clean up job that would require numerous tractors and dump trucks to remove the snow would ruin the sod that they just laid 2 months ago. It's wonderful that the weather will hit A HIGH of 40 3 times in the next 10 days, but it's about the freeze over night. It's still hitting negative temperatures here in White Plains where I am typing.

You must have been on dope to drive over there and take a picture of what you knew was a snow covered field.
And I'm a drinker not a drug user
Only 1 time in NFL history can I remember them not having been able to clear the field for a game and that was Buffalo this past season with 7 feet in 2 days.
you want to clear the snow while the ground is frozen so as not to damage the sod. then let the sun warm it.
maybe not ready before the 1st home game but certainly by the week after.

I like it. I think they spread out the mls season way too much. I would t mind late March or early April to october. World cup year not withstanding.

I went over there to see if there was any progress. Trying to do a service for the board.

Big difference between an NFL field and our little pitch.

Just re-read your response to me I thought it said "on dope" which I thought was funny.
But you called me a dope and thats totally different - no need for that

I guess I am asking if that sign was there the last few times Kjbert has been there and we just missed the sign. (no offense KJbert, super appreciate the pics).

That sign is probably over at the athletic building. 1/4 mile past our field on the right.
