Home - 04/19 Portland

Think Villa and Calle are out. Velasquez comes back maybe. Shelton needs to start again. Would like to see Taylor get minutes to. Mix is back. Our time on the ball against philly was great. We need more of that. Defense needs to step it up. For the lack of work they had last game, Saunders can't save everything all the time. Help him out a bit.

Is Facey the only other person who can play RB correctly? I wish we could play Calle as a LM and not a LB. Move Wingert over there and try Mendoza if we are all gunshy on Kwame now.

Do you think Nemec is too gassed now?
I would also prefer Wingert at LB, but we need more pace at that spot considering Portland's speed in attack.

Haven't seen enough of Facey to have formed an opinion, but I don't like him at CB (where he played some in preseason).

I'm not a huge Nemec fan. I think Mullins adds more than just a big body to the frontline, so I put him in place of Nemec.

Does anyone know who organizes any of the chants in the supporter's section? I'd love a truly NY chant and
no one is more NY than Run DMC. This chant could absolutely rock the stadium. Instead of:

It's tricky to rock a rhyme
To rock a rhyme that's right on time
It's tricky
It's tricky, tricky, tricky

We chant:

We're city. We'll win this time
We'll win this time. Our play's sublime
We're city!
We're city! New York City!

Hernandez is out tomorrow with a calf strain and Villa has been out of practice so he's doubtful.

I guess this is what I'd like to see. Williams is probable and so is Facey so that'll be interesting to see who goes. Villa is going to be a game time decision with his hamstring strain. Hernandez is out so I'd like to see what Mendoza can do. I don't have much faith is KWS

We're fucked if Villa doesn't play against the Timbers

Add Mix to the list of walking wounded:
Villa (hamstring) and starting centerback Jason Hernandez (quad) were forced out of Thursday’s 1-1 tie against Philadelphia at halftime, and neither practiced at SUNY-Purchase on Saturday. Hernandez is out, and Villa and starting right back Josh Williams, and his backup Shay Facey, are questionable.

Kwame Watson-Siriboe is the likely replacement with Hernandez out. If Villa can’t start, Shelton could get the nod up front alongside Adam Nemec, after getting his first start and first MLS assist playing wide right on Thursday.

Defender Javier Calle, who came off in the 78th minute Thursday with cramping, and midfielder Mix Diskerud — who played for the U.S. National Team Wednesday in San Antonio and suffered an ankle injury vying for a ball in training on Friday — didn’t appear on the injury report.

“I think he’ll be fine. It’s just a little bit of an ankle sprain there in a small-sided game. I think he’ll be fine,’’ Kreis said.

I think we are a better team than it feels right now. Late goals are a fixable problem. Cut off everything after 85 minutes and we would have 11 points on 6 games or 1.83 ppg, tying for 4th best record in the league. Better conditioning and building mental strength will improve that. I know taking away those 3 late goals is a big assumption. But another way to look at it is that as a first year team we have a decent foundation. Now we just need some mental toughness. Or maybe I'm just a hopeless optimist.

Can't wait to walk into the stadium tonight.

We're city. We'll win this time!

I just checked out Ticketmaster and it looks like another decent crowd tonight. Well, at least in the sense there are no dark blue sections on the chart.
