USMNT Talk

you expect the Alamodome to not have a crappy field. IIRC it was last year when chivas played AC milan in a friendly there as well and AC milan refused to play literally minutes before the game because the field conditions were just horrible. The game did go on but on tv it was painfully obvious how terrible the field was. If its still bad , i am hoping Mix wont play this game, i dont want to risk him getting injured for playing in a crap field, especially when its just sod over concrete.

also the USSF should just tell SUM to have the game hosted somewhere else, there are other actual MLS stadiums out there you know.

I would be extremely surprised if the US lost tonight. They brought star players who know each other and play relatively well in comparison to the team MX brought. I enjoy following both teams and a majority of MX players are newish and not as popular. US should totally have this in the pocket!

end result was what i expected considering piojos list and the squad US brought.

at least no injury to mix considering that crap field. not sure if beckerman got a injury which resulted in his substitution.

I didn't get a chance to watch the game, can anyone give a recap on how mix played?
In a nutshell it looked like he really enjoyed being able to finally play the ball "up"!!! He was all over the field and was heavily involved. A very good showing I thought on an absolutely sub par pitch.

Mix played extremely well, in my opinion - he was creating space and making plays - was quite the aggressive work horse, as well - very happy with his performance

this makes me feel like he needs to be further up in the formation. Have him replace velazquez and bring in poku in the role that mix currently has. It feels like its something that needs to happen if the results and nycfc' s play looks like its been looking past couple of games

I wonder if the experimentation with the lineup is now over as we head toward summer. Klinsmann will certainly play his Best XI at the Gold Cup, and we only have two friendlies before then, at Germany and at the Netherlands in early June. My guess is that Klinsmann will want to bring his Best XI to those two friendlies as a warmup for the tournament.

So, what is your Best XI for the USMNT if those games started today? Here is mine.

. . . Altidore - Dempsey
. . . . . . . Bradley
. . F. Johnson - Bedoya
. . . . . . . . Jones
Shea - Besler - Gonzalez - Yedlin
. . . . . . . Guzan

Key subs would include: Johannson, Zusi, Nguyen, Mix, Beckerman, Brooks, Cameron, Rimondo. Certainly, Klinsmann likes to give roster spots to younger guys, so it seems likely that some of Ibarra, Green, Morris, Zardes, Shelton, Alvarado, Garza, Zelalem, Hyndman or Kitchen will make the team and/or supplant some of the veterans.

Klinsmann seems to want to transition away from Jones as a defensive midfielder, so it's possible we see Beckerman in that role, but he is only 18 months younger than Jones, so who knows. It's also possible we end up with Bradley shifting back and someone like Bedoya or Nguyen take the attacking role with the other or Mix on the right.

Shea has been playing well at LB, so I bet he gets the nod. Tim Chandler is another possibility or F. Johnson moving back. I don't know why Robbie Rogers hasn't gotten a look at that position since he is playing it well at LA (and was on the USMNT as a midfielder).

Klinsmann is now seems comfortable starting Yedlin at RB. The other option there would seem to be Cameron, or - again - bringing Fabian Johnson back from midfield.

We can now add Zalalem to the mix! I don't know if he has a role to play this early that could affect our GC run, but I'm sure we'll see him subbed in over the next two friendlies.

Great to see Gedion available.

The U-20 WC goes until June 20, so if we make a bit of a run, he won't be available for the friendlies, but I expect we will see him at the Gold Cup.

I want to see Zelalem play first, if he impresses though he could very easily be on the GC roster.

I don't think he deserves a shot on the Gold Cup roster. He hasn't played with the team yet and his introduction during an important tournament would be very good for team cohesion.

What's his style of play? I've never seen him in action.

He basically has incredible dribbling skills, probably better than anyone else in the pool right now. I'm not to sure about his style of play tbh, all I know is he is highly rated at Arsenal and Klinsmann said he could help the senior team right now.

Exactly, JK has said he is ready to contribute. I suspect he will view adding Gedion for the Gold Cup in the same way he included guys like John Brooks and Julian Green at the World Cup - young players who can come off the bench and bring a change of pace as well as obtain great seasoning at an early age.
