Atlanta is building a monster club, City should be ashamed by comparison.

Atlanta sold 30k+ season tickets as of like a year ago. I'm sure after seeing that, they skipped the whole "pique interest by signing old, big names" stage and went right to signing top SA youth.

Minnesota is the club that's getting embarrassed here.

I was under the impression that the Atlanta thing was another case of "money down on a deposit but the tickets haven't actually been sold yet", so we don't actually know for sure what their take-up will be?

Report: Atlanta United to sign Paraguayan playmaker for $13 million (Arsenal wanted this guy for $11 million, ATLU outbid them)

DC was able to fend off Euro clubs to keep Birnbaum:

Atlanta could be putting together a nice little attack. A good creator now added to Kenwyne Jones. And I really think Carleton can do well next year, assuming RJ or some similar hack doesn't break his legs when theyre getting skinned. I am not at all sure that Carleton isn't ahead of Jack Harrison despite being 4 years younger. Best thing there is he's almost certainly only going to be there for 2 seasons.

They converted more than 2/3.

As of four months ago they had sold the second most season tickets in the league behind only Seattle and set the record for most by an expansion club.

"Atlanta United president Darren Eales told MLSsoccer.com on Friday that the club has converted 22,000 of the 31,000 season ticket deposits the club received into full season tickets for their inaugural season. Eales said that the total would be the second most season tickets sold in MLS this year behind only the Seattle Sounders and that it was already a record for an MLS expansion team.

Eales said that the club is planning on opening up season ticket sales to the general public in the “near future.” Atlanta United reached the 22,000 mark despite not yet having hired a head coach and currently having seven players on their roster."

Don't forget about Hector Villalba on the RW too. http://www.transfermarkt.com/hector-villalba/profil/spieler/237061

If Carleton also starts, Almiron will probably play as a central attacking mid, or they'll all play as attacking mids behind Jones in a 4-2-3-1.

If they get Andres Guardado or another similar CM DP, that's going to be an incredible attack out of the gate. Defense and depth will be their issues in year one, just like us.

22K STH for an expansion club before a ball is kicked is INSANE

How so?

Minnesota doesn't have mega-wealthy ownership. They aren't playing in a destination city, a global city. They never made claims to be a leader of the league in any respect (that I'm aware of).

I just don't understand how with City's massive academy system, massive reserve system, massive scouting system that we can't find 3 guys somewhere in all these organizations of the quality of a Lodeiro/Dempsey/Gio/Almiron?

I'll take Villa over anyone, and I am willing to give them a chance to see what lessons they learned from DP 2 and 3

Yeah, that's 1 guy and I'll agree to taking him -- even if he doesn't always play as a team player as much as the other guys I listed -- but like I said, and I think you acknowledge, we need 3 guys.

I'm hopeful they learned and I hope Villa's in their ears like "get me some kids that can run and draw defenders and pass me the ball to tap it in!"

Villa might not play as much as a team player than Dempsey????

Yeah, Dempsey would be at the bottom of the list for those 4 players but better team player than Villa? It's really close.

Villa gets frustrated some games and when he's frustrated he basically turns and shoots the ball no matter where the hell he is. I know Dempsey is a ball hog and a bit of a dick on the field (mostly to the opposing teams, to his credit) but I can't say I can ever recall him doing what Villa does some games and just taking the most obnoxious shots time after time out of frustration.

Well damn. No one even put this up? Brandon Vazquez is a great pick-up. I don't know if he'll be a great player, but he's a really solid prospect. I'm still itching for us to get some of these guys.

And they are on track to get Guardado. Bastards might actually be pretty damn good (and by that, I mean way better than we were our first year).
