2017 Attendance Thread

I live in curry hill, so grand central isn't such a bad walk that I need to take the subway. Since the subway takes me about an hour and 20 once walking is factored in, and metro north takes about 38 mins to the stadium, including walking, why not take Metro North? If I time it right I just pay the extra $5 and shave about 50 mins off of my commute to the match.

My marginal rate of substitution for an hour of my day is well over the $5 additional cost of taking metro north. So why take the subway?
I usually take the metro north to grand central home after the games. It's less crowded and the seats are more comfortable.

Happily it turns out it was only a couple of extra clicks to turn it on.

Include one of those in the future perhaps?

If our attendance was a stock, I'd take a short position based on the chart alone.

Ehh, I probably wouldn't advise you to short it. Chart shows a lot of positive and negative volatility and tends to spike pretty aggressively on a semi random basis.

Additionally your looking at shorting into a potential rebound as the equity tends stumble out of the gate a bit, but usually pick up steam by the end of the year. While the trend is longterm negative occasional extreme upwards spikes can seriously damage your invested capital to a degree where the long term effect is negated.

The moving average looks like we have more of a asset that is volatile within a band as opposed to an overall shorting opportunity. You'd really need to see some trouble with underlying assets or business model in order to give this anything more than a stay the hell away rating.

Don't go long, don't go short, don't go near.

Wanna risk money, go second mover on pot stocks upside is huge as well as the downside. Smart money is leaving those stocks due to regulatory risk though, Jeff Sessions has a hate boner for pot.

Want to be safe, buy a T bill.

The above is not meant to be investment advice. Please consult with your investment adviser before making investment decisions.

So, is it insider trading if I happen to know the schedule in advance and so make a move before a NJRB match, say? Uh, asking for a friend.

But do go near on match days as that's what helps the attendance numbers, of course.

Insider trading occurs when you have material non public information and use that information in the decision to purchase or sell stock. This can be done legally if you are a member of the firm in question and register your trade with the SEC before execution.

It is impossible to illegally insider trade if you are a sitting member of congress, they exempted themselves from that law. This and other reasons are why the best investors y/y are members of congress. I think the current 10 year average is something like 12% ROI.

Since the dates of the RedBulls games are public knowledge you cannot, by definition, be insider trading. You merely did more work to understand the underlying upwards volatility than someone who just looked at the graph.

The great social experiment would have been for JGarrettLieb JGarrettLieb to not say anything and then see if LionNYC LionNYC is sitting in GA seating next season after his massive short...

The weather was horrible, the NCAA tournament was going on, and the match ups frankly stunk.

Is there a single person on NE, SJ or MTL worth watching?

But on the positive side the stadium alterations are great and in the summer I think the buzz will pick up. I agree, bad short!!!

It must be in another thread, but someone mentioned that Lampard leaving NYCFC may be a reason why attendance has dropped.

I haven't seen the Chelsea girl at her typical seats at all this season.

I'm in the camp
That the match ups and weather stunk. I still think things will be down noticeably throughout the year

Year three of a new franchise tends to be the low point if its run well. The new car smell has completely worn off and the team really hasn't managed to put down significant roots yet.

Also I think they aren't marketing as heavily as they were, that probably has something to do with it. Additionally I believe Garber said something about MLS significantly reducing the number of free seats given away on average this year. I'd honestly imagine that if you took away 2000-3000 free seats then you would just have 2000-3000 fewer people at the match. Its just there are a higher percentage of paying customers now.

Interesting point about free seats. It's just opportunity cost. Pack the stadium and let them buy concessions.

The average person doesn't even know what MLS is. The irony is that as a sport the growth rate is crazy at the youth level. Soccer is well known, MLS isn't. They spend too much time/money marketing to existing MLS fans and not enough on the non-fans.

Not enough families in attendance. The stadium specifically is not conducive to families. No kid friendly food options. Nowhere for kids to blow off steam. They do a poor job eith that stuff

Metro North is a great way to go if you are anywhere near GCS or Harlem or can get there easily. Yankee Stadium is the first stop after Harlem, and you can buy beer at GCS and drink it on the train.

Unfortunately, Metro North does not run trains from Westchester/Connecticut direct to the stadium as they do for Yankee games, so you have to transfer at Harlem. Service is too infrequent on weekends to make this a decent alternative to driving.

Obviously depends where you come from, but driving to Croton-Harmon or Tarrytown for direct service to 153rd is excelllent alternative. I do it every week. Get 1-2 beers for the train, don't worry about parking or drinking/driving (until back in Westchester), and you may even see a Goodfella or two.

True - the Hudson line does go directly in. I am just far enough south in Westchester that it is easiest to just drive.
