2017 Confederations Cup

I'm looking forward to this match at 11, Mexico vs. Portugal. Should be pretty good.

I wonder if Portugal will use their Euro playbook and bunker. They probably should, but I'm thinking they may not as it might be too weak of them to be so deferential in possession to a pitiful little CONCACAF team.

If Portugal tries to go toe to toe, I could see Mexico putting 2 or 3 on them. Then, it just comes down to what Portugal can score. I'm leaning toward a 2-1 Mexico win, but could see Portugal winning 1-0 if they don't get cocky.

I feel like people are to quick to forget that Portugal won the Euro's by being the best extra time team, and the best penalty taking team They really have trouble winning games in 90 minutes.

Wow no goal. Don't mind this as long as they get it right and do it quick. Honestly, in the time Portugal would of celebrated they got that call taken care of. I'm okay with that.
But damn that was like 3 feet offside, no reason it should of even gone to review.

1-1
Glad Mexico is going to make a game of it.
Am I misremembering or did everyone think Chicharito was done prior to going to B04?

Still, these announcers are killing me.

Theoretically that broadcast was English language commentary.

Whoever was the new commentator FS1 brought in for this game was freaking awful because he barely spoke English. And if anything positive or stressful happened for the Mexican side, he would switch right back to Spanish. I'd rather Lalas over this guy, if only because I can actually understand what Lalas is saying. If I want to not understand what's going on I'll watch the Univision feed, I expect Fox to do better.

The guy has one single job, to commentate on a soccer match in the English language for an English language audience. If he can't commentate in INTELLIGIBLE ENGLISH, then he shouldn't have the job in the first place.

What a stupid, pointless and time-wasting fiasco this VAR is. That Chile goal was at best a 50-50 call and they overrule the goal call on the field.

Even worse, the time wasted eliminates actual game time and action. It does not just extend the game, it is taken from play. In the Portugal/Mexico game the review of the second allowed Portugal goal took 2 fucking minutes. Everybody stood around for 1 minute plus after the celebration ended waiting for the review announcement. But at the end of 90 minutes, they only added 3 minutes time. With 3 subs from each team in the second half 3 minutes should be the minimum. The time wasted on VAR did not count.

The disallowed Chile goal came 20 seconds into 1 minute of added time at the end of the first half. When they announced the no goal they did not resume play. We lost 40 seconds of playing time to VAR bullsht.

Some day a team chasing game is going to score a goal, think they tied or won it, wait 2 minutes, have the goal taken away, probably wrongly, and then the game will end because they were deprived of the time they needed to score again. And all the numbnutz who said "VAR will fix this. VAR will fix that," wll bitch and moan with the rest of us instead of ritually shaming themselves as they deserve.

I watched the Telemundo feed but just found out Jorge Perez Navarro is narrating on fox ....LMFAO :tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy: yoooo I didn't know univision's worst announcer was now on FS1

None of you can hate hate him as he is a huge USMNT fan (MLS as well) at least he was when he was in Univision, always saying his son will be part of American outlaws when he is old enough

As for the VAR....this is why it's still in experimental phase still and the confederations cup is one of the tourneys for it ( I don't mind it being tested here tbh, official but still not up there like a euro or World Cup)the time for call to be reviewed should be improved though and not all goals need to be reviewed. At least the the ref Isint going to the sidelines to look at video himself

The chile goal though ....saw an angle that showed he was just offside by a knee....this tells me that the days where you give advantage to attacker are over pretty much

We'll see how other calls go in this tournament

I thought Australia's second goal against germany was a handball.

man it really felt like it hit his chest ...i must be the only one who thought that even after seeing video many times. his arm is extended yes but to me it hit his left part of chest for deflection not his arm.

they may have been other angles we dont see and that is a problem here if that is true going forward with VAR

and herein lies the problem, one person sees it one way and another person sees it differently.

Penalties are the worst thing to decide upon.

At this stage i think VAR should only be used to check for offsides as that should be a bit more clear cut
