How, but how in the living daylights, did the video ref after what felt like 10 hours of deliberating, manage to book a total of one* player for that massive brawl at the end? There were at least three hand-to-face incidents plus the initial two-footed tackle. The commentators on my channel were saying that as many as 5 players could have been sent off with justification, even if they weren't actually expecting all 5 to go. They were truly baffled that it ended 11v11.
(*Yes, I know three players actually got carded in the end, but the further two were for incidents after the video decision).

if true then it proves my theory that VAR will change nothing.....a ref can see a blatant tackle against an nycfc player for example and will say oh no penalty no foul ....its up to the ref at end of day
VAR ignored a blatant two-footer from behind in the Germany game, too. Granted it was immediately before the Chile goal but the Laws of the Game do say that you can book players after calling a goal...

Also, Goretzka with 2 in about 80 seconds. Ochoa makes me think Guzan isn't terrible, even though like Sandoval, he objectively is terrible.
Let me just say, this German team has some guys I love in it. Timo, Stindl, Goretzka, Draxler. Rudiger at CB. So much talent.
Could see this one turning into another Chile like last summer. And frankly, that makes me smile a little.

Well, one reason to smile at that possibility is that it would lead to Mexico firing Osorio, which would be completely stupid and self-defeating - a quality we always cherish in our Mexican rivals.

Germany has recent experience scoring 7 goals. Mexico has recent experience conceding 7 goals. This should happen again.
Give Mexico credit. They are still fighting. They've come close to breaking through a couple of times. It's all academic now, but they're hanging in.

I was rooting for Mexico and Chile so it was not fun seeing both lose. However I am very happy for Germany/Barca's number 1 goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen having a successful tournament and being named Man of the Match for the final. I am rooting for him to become Germany's number 1 goalkeeper when Manuel Neuer retires. Also happy for Chile's Claudio Bravo winning the Golden Glove. It was sweet watching him and ter Stegen (who were teammates for 2 years at Barca) hugging in the tunnel before the game and chatting on the pitch after the game.
I only saw the Germany vs Chile game. Very exciting. Chile played good enough to win, but rely on Alexis too much. The guy gets triple teamed while others watch. Germany has a very good young core. Their future is bright.
Oh and if VAR doesn't give a red on that elbow, don't even bother with it.

As Herc said, that's not a red card, it's jail time. It is very much something where if he made contact in the right place, we're talking death or permanent damage.
