2017 General MLS Transfer Rumors

Wait, so they're cutting a guy in the hope that somebody offers him a contract, even on for min salary with RB picking up the rest for the year, just to clear a space on their roster? They're going to eat a big chunk of his salary no matter what, right? Because who would offer to take on his entire $360k?

What am I missing here? Are there rumors of RB picking up somebody else out of contract? They can't fill that spot for a month otherwise.
We should pick him up for $60k just to make them pay for one of our players.

And he actually doesn't suck. He's probably more of a city type anyway.

Is he on loan or full contract? If full, we'd own his contract at full price of $360k for next year and any remaining years, right? That would be problematic.

But for $60k, I'd take a flyer on him.

Okay. Misunderstood the waiver situation. I thought we could pick him up and they would have to make him whole.

I think that's for this year - they pay the difference in value). I don't know what happens for next year (if he isn't a 1-yr loan to them).

Wait, so what's that do to their CAP hit? They simply canceled the loan and they get it off the books?

What's the point of waivers for a loaned player?

So man city can loan us a player for 6 months we keep as a DP (summer-winter playoff run). Then we cut him and he goes back to MC without hitting waivers, they pick up his salary and he comes off our books?

That I understand, but in reference to RB, they put their player on Waivers, but if it was a loan, they should have just been able to terminate the loan and he returns straight to Austria, not go on waivers. Seems like an extra unnecessary step they went through.

Andres Guardado to sign with LAFC
One more quality international that'll unknowingly see his skills deteriorate in the league, just like Bradley, Altidore, and Jones... which is a good thing for the USMNT. Let's sign up half the Mexican starters to sabotage their quality.

I think the big deal about signing top Mexican players isn't the signing of the individual, but the flipping of opinions of MLS south of the border. There are extremely few Mexicans playing in MLS right now despite the size of the market. With Dos Santos, Torres, and now Guardado, opinions will start to change. Once the door is open (and our salary budget is up), we could see a total flood of mid-tier Mexican talent coming across the border. This would be the ultimate catalyst for balancing the two leagues.

Liga MX talent flooding into MLS, I love it. Make MLS Great Again!
