US to wear rainbow name sets in June to celebrate Pride. I need this.

Not bothered by what it represents, as I am fine with whatever cause anyone supports. But I would prefer the team take the field with regular numbers.

What's the point of this? I don't think USMNT fans are rampantly homophobic, nor do I see it being anything but a way to sell shirts.

Let the players or coaches say/write/tweet/wear what they want when it's not game time. I just don't like institutionalizing something like this with what the team is wearing on the field.

For the record, I don't like the camo or military stuff either. Nor did I give a rats ass about the ocean shirt we wore, but at least they sold those austensibly to support clean oceans, which, if you remove artifices of politics, is a pretty neutral stance in a vacuum.

Bring back the Waldo shirt and stop fucking around.

Not sure that's super accurate after reading the comment sections from articles about this...

Well, that's the other side of this, right? Giving people something to make into an internet argument.

my default setting is believing comments sections are 90% populated by idiots and very intentional trolls.

In either event, I don't think this move does anything for anyone except make someone at USSF feel good.

I long for the day when sports will be a politics free zone... no barriers left to break and no discrimination or prejudice. While that may always exist with some of the fans (and they are idiots), it would be nice to have a refuge from the ubiquitousness of politics now present in American life. For God's sake, I can't buy vegetables at the local supermarket, watch a movie or attend a game without being subjected to political sermonizing. It doesn't matter if I agree with you or not. I just want to watch a game, in part, to escape it all. And now, that's not even possible.

Again, it doesn't matter if I support the cause or not and these jerseys won't do anything to educate anyone about anything.

Human rights shouldn't be political.

As long as there are idiots in comment sections denying folks basic human rights, I will support the USMNT's decision to wear an awful kit complemented by rainbow numbers.
Fine. Did the team vote on it? I highly doubt it.

Look, whether you or I agree with it isn't what matters. What matters is the why. And there is no why and obvious push on the players' part. And make no mistake, the players play for country as a charity.

It's simple minded from someone to push this. It doesn't affect change. It's another tweak to sell a shirt to people who want to feel like they are doing something by paying an uninterested organization extra money that will in no way benefit any cause.

It's SJW for $$$.

A massive generalization. How can you possibly claim that something like this doesn't affect change? It is not always about trying to "convince" the other side. There is a massive amount of value in signaling unity to others. A small gesture to show someone who might not be super comfortable with the situation they're in that says, "we're with you." Sure, there are plenty of people that just wear whatever cause is popular *cough* Livestrong *cough*, but there are many more that are active participants. I have been supporting You Can Play for many years now since Tommy Wingles became a spokesman for them with the San Jose Sharks. Here's a good article about him and YCP.

It's fine for you to be offended that an organization would show support for equality/military/cancer awareness, but don't sit there pretend that there aren't people who have a very real connection to these issues. None of this might not matter to you, but it sure matters to a lot of others.

And you're last statement is wrong. US Soccer will be donating the proceeds to You Can Play.

Look, I live my real life in a way that means no individual or group is owed an apology. I'm not offended by it at all.

I don't need to wear a goddamn rainbow because I know what I believe and how I treat people.

Good for them supporting with a few dollars. Still, did the players vote? Because if they didn't, it's totalitarian political correctness rearing its head again, being perpetrated against people who are already basically donating their talents to represent the country.

Apparently, that's what passes for liberal and progressive thought these days.

Most organizations aren't democracies. Does your org vote on what time your boss takes a shit everyday?

No one is saying you have to wear a whatever-you-called-it camiseta. The burden of proof is on the people who are complaining that nobody should.

ETA: it's fascinating to me that people who see fairly similarly when it comes to football can be so vastly opposed when it comes to other affairs.

The players are employees so getting a vote isn't necessarily part of their contract; No different than a McDonalds employee getting to vote on their uniform. But don't assume that if given the opportunity to vote that they wouldn't have endorsed it.

Once again, political sermonizing.... can we get back to soccer and leave the "non-political" politics to other forums. Cause whether something should or shouldn't be political is irrelevant. It is and this isn't a political forum as I understand it.

Absolutely, yes, let's get back to talking about curling or whatever it was, immediately.
