2017 MLS All-Star Game presented by Target

Remember when Pirlo and Villa were selected to the ASG in San Jose last year. They brought all their luggage to the stadium, played for 30 minutes, then flew private to our next match. It's going to be the same thing for this game. And the jet doesn't count against the charter plane numbers.
Alex, I'll take: Is 5 minutes too short of a Cameo for $1000

Didn't it also get said last year-possibly year 1- that Wednesday is usually the higher intensity training during a week, and so playing <45 minutes in an ASG wasn't that different

Remember too that last year was a Thursday night game, after which (and a little during which), Pirlo and Villa took a red-eye from San Jose to NYC for a Saturday day game against Colorado. They were probably back on the ground for 33 hours or so before kickoff. Of course, Villa didn't actually play in that game (Yellow Card accumulation), but Pirlo put in a 66' shift.

This year will be a flight back from Chicago on a Wednesday before a Sunday evening game. Villa will have an extra 48 hours of rest and a shorter flight.

We know 11, Garber picks 2, the rest of the lineup is selected by the Chicago head coach who is coaching the MLS All Star team. Do you think he loads up on Toronto and NYCFC players in order for them to do poorly their next match to propel Chicago in the standings? Jozy, Bradley, Vazquez, Morrow, Villa, Harrison, Ring, Callens...

I imagine Garber would have to step in if Paumovich does that.

Full roster announced....My thoughts:
- Stefan Frei is not in the top five goalkeepers in MLS. He was only chosen for FS1 can play the replay of his save in the 2016 MLS Cup. 2016. This is 2017.
- It's a shame that Beasler or Opara didn't make it because SKC has been the best defense in MLS this season.
- Michael Parkhurst making it is an absolute joke.
- Grana isn't FC Dallas best defender at all. Hedges or Zimmerman.
- How did Alessandrini not make it? He's LA's best player over Gio dos Santos in the midfield.
- Higuan or Meram deserves to be in here. I guess the Chicago coach won't pick Columbus players.
- TFC has three players. Chicago has four. NYCFC has one. Of the top three teams in MLS, something is wrong here. Don't get me wrong, I'd rather have our players get practice and rest rather than flying to Chicago since we play the Red Bulls on Sunday. But Ring is an absolute snub.
- No Red Bulls selected (they shouldn't be) but they'll have their full squad for training the week of our match up.

Weird that as well as we have been playing we only get one player, but we can't really complain about it. Just means more fresh legs for the Sunday game against New Jersey (who have zero players in the game).

Worth noting that this is an All-Star Game, not a Best XI Game. If you let fans vote, then you get the popular players, which is why we have Kaka and Zusi and Beasley, and frankly that's okay.

There is probably also a fair amount that goes on behind the scenes with the coach's and commissioner's picks. That would explain things like Frei and Gio.
