Fantastic result for us. We should be able to hold onto the second seed considering that Atlanta have to play NJ and Toronto to end the regular season.
I hope we go for all 6 points even if we clinch. Increase our handicap for a CCL spot as much as possible. Right now it looks like:

Chi -4
Clb -6
Por -9
Skc -9
Sea -9
NJ - 13
Hou -13
We could make it very hard for anyone to catch us in the combined SS standings by picking up a few more points over them in the next couple matches and having even just a decent season next year.

Doing that would be worse than any assistance they’ve given LA regarding roster construction; at least there, once LA was helped, the rule helped every other team. Dallas has to be punished per the laws; they fcked up, albeit perhaps just as a momentary lapse of reason, but it’s a cardinal rule violation nonetheless. MLS needs to take their medicine and move on.
I saw speculation -- somewhere -- that they might dock Dallas but not give 2 points to Orlando.

That’s so MLS making the rules up as they go. A match is either a tie(2pts split) or a win/loss(3pts). If Dallas forfeits, they lose, which means there has to be a winner because Orlando can’t tie a loser.
How do they just not even address it? It’s absolutely massive to Orlando.
I guess I answered myself in my initial post. They are CFG-ing it.
Points docking does happen fairly regularly across the globe. But it would seemingly be unprecedented to dock points for actions in a particular game and not declare the opponent a winner.
Just to clarify, when I said I read some speculation - it might have been some idiot on Twitter or the MLS comments. Of course, since nobody official has said anything on the record, speculation by idiots is as good as it gets.
Agreed. However, if we’re going to hear from idiots, it would be preferable to hear from the official ones.
Aren’t most non-match dockings a result of either club financial issues (ie bankruptcy and not meeting League minimums) or fan related incidents? In those situations, the loss of points is a singular situation because only the single club in question is part of the equation. With dallas/Orlando, the sub affected the outcome of the game with every touch/movement of the illegal player (the score may have stayed the same or changed with a different substitution but it’s impossible to ever know).
That’s why I can’t logically see only a reduction of points and not also an awarding of them.
AFAIK. That is why we are in agreement. Vehement agreement apparently.
Closest analog was recent: when French Guyana fielded an ineligible player and their opponent Honduras was awarded 3 points after a 0-0 result.
Though, those circumstances were much different. French Guyana knew way beforehand that that player was ineligible and they would be forced to forfeit their match. That match was also pretty meaningless in most circumstances to F.G. (they weren't going to advance in Gold Cup).
That said, there are definite parallels and I think the punishment should still stand for violating the rules. Just wanted to point out that it was a bit of a different lineup violation.
