2017 Roster Discussion

I love Rodney and his two-way play, but I still hop we pick up a DP-level LW in the winter. He's great for rotation, and certainly someone we'll want to hold onto, but he's not providing enough offensively. I wonder if he can slide into one of the midfield roles if we lose Herrera and/or Ring. There too much we could be getting from the left side that we've been missing with Wallace in the lineup.
This is one reason why I want to go 3ATB. Him and Mata would platoon that LWB spot. We could absorb the Herrera lost by starting another CB. Maxi could play the 8 or move up to LF in a 343 or the 10 in a 352 if we get a DP CM this offseason or next summer.

Maybe for depth, I guess...

LCB: Ferraresi, Sweat
CB: Callens, Brillant
RCB: Chanot, Struna, Allen, White
You can't play fullbacks in a 3 ATB lineup. Allen & Struna would be wingbacks. Sweat and White are more suited but its not their ideal position. I would also be shocked if all three of Struna, Allen, and White are on roster. I was also wrong about Ferraresi being left footed. You were right.

I think Sweat is an ideal wingback. Very competent going forward and is servicable on defense, but would probably prefer to bomb forward non-stop.

"I guess?" Look at our lineups the last few games. It's shocking to me that people are still OK with being one-deep at positions.

If we play a 3-man backline, we should be 5-deep at CB if possible, and not with repurposed FBs.

EDIT: Inb4 "salary cap." I realize it's easier said than done to be deep everywhere when dealing with a salary cap. If Ethan White is our #5 CB, fine. In fact he's a great last bench option considering his price and the fact that he can play as a true RCB and a RWB in a pinch. But the #4 CB has to be improved if we aren't spending money on 6s.
