2018 General MLS Transfer Rumors

If you’re going to sign a sorry shell of a player that is grasping at some of the past skills, he has to play a second striker role.

Essentially, he can be a Lampard. Never come into his own half. Unable to run. Hardly ever fit to play. Will knock a few in, but won’t change DCU from being a shit team.
They should be bringing Balotelli in instead.

Farm Club.
Feeder Club.
Leipzig Lite.
Plastic.
Bought by Red Bull, not Built.
Good for him. He was given an opportunity, took it, and is now being rewarded which in turn helps the USMNT.

I wish our club was willing to give our youth a chance to grow. These token appearances by TMac are worthless towards his growth, but Sands or Lewis or Scally could use the minutes.

I wish we did a little better finding those guys minutes. It will hurt us long term as we compete for local talent.

We should copy what LAG is doing. They are basically putting their U19 into USL with 3-4 senior team members who aren't getting into the 18. Great for development and game readiness.

But they never bring anyone through, it seems. So copy them, but actually promote players to the first team sounds good to me.

Zardes, McBean, Jamison IV, Villarreal twins, Rowe. They gave their academy players a solid run the last couple of seasons. Most of them just turned out to be not great players.

This crop in the Galaxy academy is said that it could be the best MLS academy crop of all time.

Zardes was a homegrown in name only, really.

Rowe was shipped into the supplemental gk pool.

The others are busts for now, for sure. But I would argue that’s as much a function of their opportunities as it was all of them being sucky.

In fairness BJIV busting had more to do with injuries.

What does "a function of their opportunities" mean? Last season, only NJ and Dallas gave more minutes to HGPs than the Galaxy.

Right. They were thrown into a dysfunctional team that was underperforming and under-managed. That's not what really what I would consider good opportunities.

How is it that the LAGalaxy seem to be one of three teams that ALWAYS holds the rights to sought-after players????

Evidently, LAG holds the rights to Bobby Wood. WTF?!?!

How can that be?
It’s hit a point where this just isn’t even believable (at LAG always being the beneficiary of players’ rights). Evidently, per twitter, Lalas pointed this out in his podcast.

Wood is subject to the Discovery process.

That means that if LA holds his rights, then they put him on their list. They finished in last place in 2017, so they probably got to pick first when submitting the lists.

Per the article I linked, LAG is also on top of the Allocation Ranking (see also https://www.mlssoccer.com/allocation). But Wood is not subject to Allocation.

Unless Wood comes to MLS it ain't worth anything anyway.

All true, but LAG somehow always is in the thick of things with any player up for discussion. It’s as if their list has 10x as many players on it as any other clubs.

Big grain of salt, but there's a rumor that Rooney will be in DC tomorrow for his physical. It comes from a TMZ source.
