2018 General MLS Transfer Rumors

You're right about Tim but that's not all they need.
yeah, but I personally think half of the goals they let in this year were because of him. Every highlights I watch, I'm shocked at how he lets such stupid balls in that even Saunders wouldn't have let in. Just an improved goalkeeper would decrease their potential GA by a good 10-15 goals by the end of the season, imo.

Great thread. Go to Twitter for the whole thing.

Nice thread. Made me wonder about timing given their collapse last year.

On July 24, they were first in the Western Conference with 34 points and a 9-3-7 record. That's around the time the rumors around Acosta and others started heating up.

By August 31, the date they publicly announced nobody was being sold, they had gone 0-4-2 and fallen to 7th in the West, where they finished. That was part of an 0-6-4 stretch - 4 points in 10 games - that ruined their season.

I haven't seen a narrative that examines whether transfer discord contributed to their collapse, but it's worth considering.

Regarding Adi.

His age and resume would presumably make Adi a prime trade target, but the sources said that his contract could make it difficult for Portland to get much of a return for him from another MLS team. The Timbers extended Adi’s contract last year, with sources saying his new contract runs through 2020. According to the MLS Players Association, his new deal is paying him $1,933,333.33 this year. That puts him well above the $1.5 million maximum to be eligible to be bought down with Targeted Allocation Money, meaning any MLS team he moves to would have to classify him as a DP. The sources confirmed that he'll make more than $1.5 million every year for the duration of his contract.
