Why down vote ?

Berget lacks skills , can't dribble, receive and control the ball in space. A waste of 816K of salaary space. Nemec 2 is the wrong player to mix with Villa, Maxi and Morales these 3 players that have great touch and skills.
Bergets touch is quite good. He regularly receives difficult passes and his first touch places the ball out of reach of the defender and where he can get off a shot. He’s been unfortunate in the last two matches to have had two shots saved while the shot placement was optimal - away and on the ground.

He makes a runs and hustles -- big deal !!! He has no skills and to pay him 816K is absurd.
I'm not going to debate when you change the terms. You said it would be great that he misses some games. I disagreed. You want to debate salary value now, find someone else. His salary stays on the books when he gets called up, so it's irrelevant to your point.

If that's all you think he does, then you don't know the game. I'm sorry.

For the way we play, "hustling" is an important part of our defensive strategy. Making good runs often times sets up a teammate for a goal. It's something that Villa is fantastic at - dragging another player through the box.

The issue with Berget is that he's a CF and not a winger. He's a sub for Villa or a partner for Villa. You can't fault a CF for being a mediocre LW.

Berget makes great runs and has a pretty good first touch... my issue with him is i think he should be more physical. Isnt very great at winning 50 50 balls and his shot leaves something to be desired so far.

He hasnt spent that much time with with the team so im not going to count him out just yet. He may settle in nicely.

I wonder if he shaved and had a baby face if we’d all be expecting him to be such a physical player? I feel like the beard may have us asking for him to be a player he’s not exactly built to be.

Im basing it on the fact he’s supposed to be a target man striker

There’s plenty of pictures of him without the beard but I’m not sure how to get image addresses from mobile

I don’t necessarily disagree that he’s better as a forward, but I think he was a wide mid before moving to a forward role like last year or 1.5 yrs ago.

Whatever. I don’t mind him either way. He’s no Isi, but who is?

Where did the target man striker talk come from? He has good hold up play to do it and is pretty good winning balls in the air (at least those in the middle of the field, not so much off of set pieces), but I haven't been able to find much about him being a target man before coming here. Below is the post from that Swedish guy that came on here:
joo-inge bear - get (as a sidenote, Berget means The mountain in norwegian/swedish)

Dude who never gives up. He´s abit more uneven in his performances than tinnerholm, he have had a few weaker periods during the 3 years he was in my team. He is still useful when having a bad day thou as he still runs both to open up for the rest of the team and works hard when the other team got the ball. But hes finishes and quality of passing goes down.

Downside of his work ethics might be that he occasionally works abit to hard - meaning he might make some mistakes with the ball due to high pulse. Still, he makes alot of points and is good defensively aswell when playing on the wing.

He was a victim of his own success on the wing, as he himself prefered to play striker, yet he was good enough on the side that he ended up playing there mostly. He never complained about it or made a fuss, but he did state that he saw himself mostly as a forward and that while he would play and do the best he could wherever the coach put him he wanted to play as forward.

(I´m not quite sure that I´m using the right words there - I dont normally discuss sports in this language, pulse in english does mean the amount of beats your heart does /minute right? ;))
Looking back, this is pretty spot on.

Also, I was doing some googling just now on him and didn't realize that Orlando was targeting him back in November.

Honestly, I don’t know. I may have made it up? I may have read it here? Maybe I just got that impression because that’s what I wanted him to be for us. Maybe adam adam was right, maybe it’s the beard.

You don't need a target man if the goalkeeer can hit that intermediate pass. Not many keepers can.

I think part of it too, is he's shown to be pretty decent at being a target man, outside the "target striker" part where he's dangerous in the box with his head.

SJ picks him out quite often when he plays it long and Berget has done a great job at bringing it down or flicking it on.

Berget is 6’1”, 172 lbs. By contrast both Shelton and Nemec are 6’3”.

I do think the beard gives him a more physical look, but he is pretty big, and I think he’s been pretty good in the air.

Cost/salary is always a factor, and that may explain some of the criticism of Berget, but I think we've assembled a pretty good squad with the means at our disposal, and it's normal and acceptable to overpay a bit here and there. PV and the FO have been smart addressing our needs (except at LB). Let's remember for a second that our ST options last year were Shelton and Okoli. The quality gap between either of those two and Berget is huge.

Some other international news: Kaku has officially switched to Paraguay from Argentina and he’ll be called up for their game on June 12th against Japan.

More importantly, Paraguayan players who are called up for that will game will leave June 7th to prepare. This means that Almiron (if selected) would miss the game against NYCFC on June 9th. (It could also mean that Jesus Medina is in the same boat).

Supposedly the Paraguay roster is coming out sometime today. More to come.
