Just looking at the possible home and away games and with LAFC joining the league this upcoming season we will be losing a 3rd game vs another Eastern conference team.

Previous History of 3 Game Series

2015 - NYRB, NE, ORL, MTL, PHI, TOR
2016 - NYRB, NE, ORL, DC, CHI, CLB
2017 - NYRB, NE, ORL (** ATL / MIN expansion)
2018 - NYRB, ? (**LAFC expansion)

We know the 3rd game against NYRB isn't going anywhere, so we'll only face one other Eastern Conference team a third time. Chances are it's going to be New England or Orlando.

Eastern Conference
Home and Away x 8 = 16
Home-Away-Home vs Red Bulls = 3
Away-Home-Away vs Orlando or New England = 3

TOTAL VS. EAST: 22

Western Conference
DAL - Home
RSL - Home
COL - Home
VAN - Home
LAG - Home
SKC - Away
POR - Away
SEA - Away
MIN - Away
SJ - Away
HOU - Away
LAFC - Home (** Just a guess but it would balance the home/away schedule)

TOTAL VS. WEST: 12

TOTAL GAMES: 34

I hope we lose Orlando. That ‘rivalry’ made no sense. But i worry MLS will try to keep it alive because it gets their fans excited.

Which one fan actually demonstrated on camera during a Villa PK in Orlando.[/QUOTE]

And I almost had that erased from the memory banks.

You got everything right here. Those will be the location of our Western Conference opponents. And only two three game series because of the LAFC expansion.

I would like to think the 2nd three game series is New England just because of geography and travel time.

Orlando's 3 this year were Atlanta, NYC, and Columbus.
New England has NYC, Toronto and Chicago.

Definitely makes sense for NE to lose Chicago and keep us and Toronto.
That would have Orlando lose us and keep Atlanta and Columbus. Columbus is an odd fit, but they could be moving anyway.
NYC would keep NE and RB.

Orlando - Austin makes sense geographically.

I'm honestly good with either opponent. Orlando's not a bad place to go as well. Plenty to do after the match ends and if it's early enough in the year you get some nice weather.

Shouldn’t it be DC?

Well, no, not from NE’s perspective. Who cares.

Then it would be Orlando since that's the one the MLS marketing machine has been pushing over the past three seasons.
I think it was more of a convenience, as established teams had established rivalries, it was easy to try and throw us together. It also made sense as in other sports, New Yorkers have a record of travelling to Florida games.

Plus Orlando thinks we give a shit about them, so I guess it is a heated half rivalry.

Orlando and Atlanta seem like a rivalry in the making. I mean, we have Red Bull, so not sure where NE fits into what a rivalry is.

Just because it's "Boston" v NY doesn't mean it works for ever sport. If it's NE then we got a year or two more until Miami, Nashville, Sacramento enter the league. That's going to really make the schedule unbalanced.

It doesn’t fit at all. Except from the perspective of NE. That was my point. They have no other option.
For us, DC is a better one. But that leaves Revolution, well, you know.

A Boston - NY rivalry is always good. But, I think who we get will be more a function of who is left over after all the other rivalries get paired off. We are not like NJ, who will have a 3rd game against us and DC.

How did New England end up such the odd man out in MLS North East rivalries? It seems like from the beginning the MetroStars and DC United forged something and just ignored the Revs. They haven't won any Cups, but neither have the MetroStars/RB. And the Revs made it to the MLS Cup finals 5 times which at the least prevented the other 2 from doing so, and you would think that would help develop some enmity. But no one cares about the Revs. I even think RB and DCU fans care more about the Union at this point than the Revs.

what i meant is that we will lose NE england extra game and keep the three vs Orlando to keep the "rivalry" going
