2018 Season Ticket Thread

Lol I was sitting in front of a couple who were Atlanta fans, and the guy was clearly a redneck. He kept yelling DAMN BASEBALL FIELD and WE ALL STAND, 50K STAND IN ATLANTA. I finally asked if he came from Atlanta, and he said he lives in DC. That plus a couple of Falcons Super Bowl jokes and he shut right up for the rest of the day. His girl was loving it.

There were a lot of ATL fans on the 4 train home. They were chanting "A-T-L" loudly. The NYCFC fans followed up with "Sucks."

Then they started with "Let's go Atlanta!" and "Where's your stadium?" To which I was the only one replying "You play on turf!" "Where's the Falcons?" "28 point lead!" "Arthur Blanks' B team!" They all laughed.

So i had a jersey native who lives in atl now come up for the game, she organized a bunch of our friends to watch the game from 214b (she wanted to be near the away supporters, but we didn't so we compromised going a few sections over). Let me tell you, it opens my eyes to two things. 1) The game is more fun with friends (already knew that but it reinforced it) and 2) the premium for the nycfc halfway line is the biggest ripoff in sports.

My regular seats are in 127b row 2, I sold those, thankfully, but still had swapped tickets from the orlando game same section row 18 under the awning. Much nicer to be higher up, and out of the sun. Honestly you are so far from the pitch anyway that row 2 to row 20 doesn't matter. The view isn't much improved the closer you are and you can't interact with anyone on the field anyhow, but the added elevation lets you see the far side of the pitch better which is nice.

So I went to the game on those swapped tickets then I "snuck" into 214b around the 30min mark. Snuck is an overstatement, literally no one stopped me. I foolishly sought out an usher to show her my fake screenshot tickets, but she couldn't care less. It was a risk I didn't even have to take I could have sat anywhere and no one was going to stop me.

Anyway, the view from that section is sooooo much better in my opinion. I like the goal to goal view so much more and the added height lets you basically see everything. Only thing you lose is field level interactions which really from 127b is a zilch anyhow. And maybe the 2nd half you don't see the attack as well but its still decent. And in the first half its amazing so in average you get a good overall experience.

Its basically cemented my decision to abandon the Cat 1 seats next year. They are the worst value in Yankee stadium. I could buy two seats on either side of the stadium with the goal to goal view for the same price and I would be immensely happier. I don't know what it would be like in a proper SSS but for now halfway line is a dead zone and should be avoided.

Secondary market seats in 127b for the atlanta game were going for face value of 214b. lol. what a joke. it was the #1 vs #2 Saturday afternoon game and no one wanted to go. The listed attendance was 25k but it looked like 15k to me. I am sure im cutting to 1 ticket now. As nice as it was to go with friends I doubt I could get a large group to go on the regular. And if i really needed a second ticket I could probably get it on stubhub anyhow. And now i am sure I am moving out of cat 1 to cat 6 with a goal to goal view. If the ushers give zero fucks like they did in the atlanta match i could basically walk in any 2nd level section I wanted. And the price is 40% of what i am paying now.

Yup, for my money I wouldn’t touch cat 1 or 2, they just aren’t worth it right now. Even for cat 3, I was only considering it cause my rep said I could pay cat 4 prices for this year and get cat 3 seats. All in all though, I think the best strategy is to get cat 5 or 6 seats and just wait til we move to upgrade. Sideline views at regular soccer stadium (e.g. RBA) are way better than the shit we have now.

In all honesty, you can call your rep and make the switch now, since you are being affected by the netting. You’ll either be able to pick diff cat 2 seats or potentially cat 1 seats if they do that for you, or you can just downgrade now and they’ll put credit on your account.

And yeah I was shocked at how empty the building was at kickoff, and then doubly shocked when they announced the attendance at 28k. My initial thought was that it had something to do with the subway series but that game started at 7 pm (and I went to that game after this one, so mot a real excuse imo)

You should take a look at where you want to be situated. The overhang will cover about half the section from the elements but the further back you go you run some risk of missing out on the corner flag areas. Like you said, definitely by halftime no one will check a ticket. In 213 I get my pass checked maybe twice a season and that’s probably because the usher’s new.

This is good stuff.

I’ve long agreed that the more expensive sideline seats are just not worth it since you are so far from the touch line, but it’s really up to the individual. I need to be on top of the action, which is why I like where I am in 205. You are on the sideline, but the stretch of Sections 205-207 hang farther out, very close to the touch line. I am on top of the action and on the side.

For the most recent game (Atlanta), I sat in 233B with a big group. The views aren’t bad there at all, and the atmosphere was amazing. I had spent 1.5 seasons nearby in 232B, and I don’t remember it being that intense. Really fun. I had me considering a switch.

233B and 233A are the best seats for value (the slight angle pushes them ahead of 234). I've been in 233A all four years and have never been tempted to move. No obstruction in views, and the supporter side goal end is better for atmosphere - noise + the team almost always heads that way second half. You do lose some player interaction, and the sound of the ball, but as long as the team is in a baseball stadium, that is the place to sit for the money spent.

I also have never had issues selling extra tickets, even this year, for at or near cost (though being front row may help).

only problem is the group in 234, cancerous i tell ya.

I’m writing my rep. And i’m tearing the FO a new one. I want a call back from somebody that has some authority. This operation is a joke.

I bet they say it doesn't have all the benefits that a full season ticket membership has like Cityzens, playoff pricing, etc.

Too harsh???

“M and A,

My frustration is not directed at you but the inept front office that runs NYCFC. So, as you read my email, keep in mind that I have nothing but good things to say about both of you.

But for the love of God can somebody please explain to me why I am spending the money on season tickets when I can apparently purchase them for less during one of these ridiculous sales (summer of soccer- $100 for the rest of the summer??)

Not to mention the resale value for tix is so low I am losing money every match as a season ticket holder. It would be cheaper for me to buy individual match tix to every game even when there isn’t a sale.

Not to mention selling my unused tix on Stub Hub is an unmitigated disaster. It’s such a pain in the ass, most people I know don’t even bother to try any longer. And most of the time, I can’t even give them away.

City Points offer nothing of value. The entire program is basically a consolation prize nobody really wants.

There has been no meaningful stadium news. Most of the STH’s I speak to at the games and elsewhere don’t believe we’ll have a stadium in our lifetime. So keeping tickets to preserve our spot in line for seats in a new stadium is a hollow promise. Nobody buys it anymore.

What reason do I or anyone else have to continue making fools of ourselves to basically donate extra cash to a wealthy oil conglomerate that is using the club as a side project it doesn’t seem particularly invested in??”

I'm curious, what are you asking for here? That the club not make cheap tickets available to fans? That season ticket prices be lowered? That a stadium suddenly appear?

This is a hell of a deal for people to get in to games for the rest of the season - $10 a game!!

I kind of agree with the people that are pissed about it since it undercuts what we paid for our season tickets significantly. But at the end of the day, whatever.

If it gets more bums in seats for the rest of the year that's great, but that is a tiny price for more than half of the season, so they deserve a bit of stick from people who have been loyal and, on average, paid a lot more.

That season ticket prices be lowered?
My take, I wish the club would just go ahead and lower prices permanently across the board. The current prices clearly exceed demand, and anyway it would be much more fun if the club would take an approach aimed at packing the house for every game. More fans = more fun = stronger fan/club culture.

Does complaining about this package serve the goal of packing the house? Seems to me the supply and demand piece will work itself out when they're trying to get us to renew.

1. No. Doesn’t serve any purpose, really. I actually like and support the package deal.

2. Agreed.

My only request, a tiny one, really, is that the club overhaul its entire pricing/revenue strategy from the ground up to prioritize turnout—more than these sales and package deals. Tickets like Cincinnati. Concessions like Atlanta. Whether or not that’s a good strategy for a football club as such (and I think it is), you’d *think* it would be a good strategy for an oil-state’s soft-power front. Whatever the club really is, it’s not, to my eye, doing this thing as well as it might be done.
