Anyone know what's going on with Andrew Gutman to Celtic or not? Leftback, declined a homegrown contract with Chicago for the move, but on ETR this week Matt Doyle said that he heard whispers he couldn't get a visa. I take that with a grain of salt

    Villa (NYC)
    Adams (RB)
    Almiron (ATL)
    Giovinco (TOR)
    Acosta (DC)

The biggest names in the Eastern Conference won't be in the league in 2019. Wow.

At least Villa and NYCFC broke up in December.

Holy shit that’s a big loss for DC. Not sure his game is suited to England, but he did gel with Rooney, so maybe. Wonder if DC has a target in mind - watch them get Nani (for the ManU/Rooney connection) and he also has a resurgence like Wayne......

You know something, we can be frustrated with the way this offseason has gone, but the Eastern Conference is absolutely wide open right now. Lots of teams in transition.

I could see NYCFC having a down year, but it also wouldn't be a surprise if we finished 2nd in the East. DC, Philly, Red Bulls, Toronto, Columbus (Berhalter) all weakened. It's going to be a fascinating season.

Is he good enough to even play for PSG?

I don't follow closely myself, but from what I gleaned this morning their midfield is decimated by injuries and they're kind of desperate. Also, I realize they're levels above Newcastle, but if Almiron just sold for $27M then Acosta for $10M is kind of a bargain I think.

Also last night -- about the same time as the WP story -- The Athletic posted a Kristian Dwyer story indicating that DCU rejected a $6.2M offer from a Saudi club for Acosta with no mention of PSG.
I don't know if Dwyer got scooped or if the WP got played.

I think it is the former. Stephen Goff of the Post is not only a top national soccer journalist, but also the beat writer covering DCU. If anyone knows, he does.

Not to mention, they were a disaster last season. Perhaps the players have a different definition of "winning"

I will grant that it's almost certain that Toronto is better in 2019 with him than without, especially so given how soon the season starts and them being in CCL. He possibly offers more value than the alternatives in 2020 also. But those last 3 years are very sketchy if he's a 34-37 year old guaranteed contract DP in a 3-DP league.

But then you have players like David Villa playing on a DP contract in that age range.

It’s a smart business move by Toronto (although I’m shocked by the transfer fee), but Villa shows us that age is just a number when you’re motivated.

Can’t blame either side with Giovinco’s departure, but man it’s a sad day for me as a general MLS fan. He raised the bar of this league and it sucks to see him leave like this. I hated seeing him line up against our team, and that to me means I have the utmost respect for the player.
